My mom passed away this morning. Rosemarie Jesselli Cumia DiLeonardi finally succumbed to the effects of Alzheimer's after several years living with that horrendous disease. She went out peacefully. I know for sure she never wanted to linger on as long as she did. Her mom (My Grand Mother) was a victim of dementia toward the end of her life. My Mother would visit her and jokingly say to me, "Joseph... if I ever end up like Grandma, put two behind my ear, please!"

She was an extremely strong and independent woman who raised Anthony Cumia, Dawn Cumia Costello and myself pretty much single highhandedly, on a cocktail waitress salary and always working several jobs to give us some kind of life. We always had a roof and food. Holidays and most importantly, each other... thanks entirely to her. While she was pretty liberal in her politicos, she was by no means a "the world owes" type of individual. She was "old school"... "if you want something, work harder for it"... oh yeah, what made Anthony and I stay on the straight and narrow? her other words of wisdom... "if you go to jail for ANYTHING, you will sit there until they let you out. I can't afford to bail you out."

Myself and my siblings will always owe "Ro" a tremendous debt of gratitude. She lead by example. We have all of the following qualities because of her... "determined, don't take no for an answer, never give up, there's always a way to accomplish what you want, be appreciative of everything you have.
