I tried to watch "Malcolm X" last week. Holy shit, that movie did not age well. Lee is just ridiculous in it, overacting and just being generally shitty. You can tell that Denzel Washington is doing his best to salvage the movie. And it's three fucking hours long.
Denzel's crazy good in that movie, takes over the entire film in a way only he can. Glory is an underrated movie too, Denzel and Freeman give some of their best performances
Spike Lee is like Anthony Cumia : they do good work as long as they're working for someone else. "Inside Man" was great, because Lee directed it, he didn't write it.
I don't know shit about making movies, but a director would insert that awful shot in Inside Man where Denzel looks like he's on a segway having an acid trip right? If so, he should fucking die for that. The rest of the movie is solid though.

He was also willing to admit when he was wrong and reconsidered his views on whites towards the end of his life. Good egg in my book.
