The green screen, the desk, the staring directly into the camera the whole time, his show is set up like the nightly news and it makes no fucking sense. He just has such an outdated idea of what people want from a podcast.

Rush Limbaugh has been rustling papers into a microphone for over 20 years, and he said he stole it from someone older than him.

Of course, Rush uses it intentionally to signal a change in topic to the listener.

Plus Opie actually knows he isnt on radio but on a podcast and really embraces it, doing shows in sheds and cars and restaurants. He has been stuck in some glass box for 30 years and hes making up for lost time. For Opie the radio box was holding him down, for Ant it was the only thing keeping him above obscurity. Ant would have never left the house his entire life if given the chance. He would have forced the other two to do the show from there even 20 years ago if he could have convinced them

If he was more outgoing, things could have been so much different. In 4 years he's made 2 trips to LA to promote himself. I would be bugging everyone to do their podcasts like LOS, Bobby, anyone that would have me. He could have started doing stand up even, on the side. The more options you give yourself, the better. But he mostly just stays in his house/his own comfort zone.

I seem to remember he was showing up at a lot of comedy clubs doing something until he got banned from everywhere some time last year. Once that happened the comedy podcast community at large wanted to be nowhere near someone with his profile plus he can't promote anything so he's not bringing an audience to any show he does.
