No mass market book sells at full price- that discount was already baked into the publishers pricing model when they decided to list it.

And no one has any idea how many pre-sales were published. The number that keeps getting thrown around here was an estimate by a site attempting to reverse engineer the Amazon sales rank into actual numbers. (A site that Amazon blocked for TOS violations on the API they were using)

Once the thing is out it will likely crash and burn and we'll at least be able to see the industry sales numbers. But the stuff floating around ahead of that is bullshit.

That's not how any of this works. The publisher has already paid the ghost writers and likely run the first print run. There's no incentive for them to drop him this late in the game when they've already sunk most of the costs. If/when the book bombs it will simply go to paperback faster.
