I always felt after Ant got fired, Soder should have immediately became the new guy. he's the closest thing to 2000s era Ant, plus then Soder wouldn't have to steer the ship for Big Jay on The Bonfire. Opie needs a funny man, and Soder needs to be on a show not obsessed with sex.
He's at his best when he's relaxed and out of the studio. It must have been awful for him having to be the mature boss of those other two idiots knowing that they secretly hated him behind the scenes.

He never tried to shut our sub down, or go out of his way to whine about us. Out of all of them, we actually don't appear to affect his life - crazy, right?
He does a free podcast that, while not all that good, he genuinely seems to enjoy with his friends, while never spouting black crime statistics, drunkenly revealing his fey voice, looking at his phone or talking about wrestling.
He hands down, despite our many jokes, has the healthiest relationship publicly with his family. He forgave his mom, he' still married, his brother is self-sufficient in business, and he raises his kids. No daliances with transexual escorts, childhood financial pacts, or secretly fucking Norton's fag hags.
For a long time, while the crew bashed him once the show fell apart, he kept his comments internal, seeming not to care. When he finally did start speaking up, it was relatively calm, factual, and surprisingly cutting.
And finally, while he had many moments where he tried too hard, this can't be denied: Opie, out of them all, is legitimately the most professional when it comes to Radio. Jim, Sam, and Ant have shown that without him they are aimless, boring, and rarely funny. They have the attention spans of an ADD-riddled 5 year old, and the obsessive-focus on shit topics of an autistic who can't stop talking about Dragon Ball Z.

It was his responsibility to keep the show running no matter what. And because he knew for a fact that Ant was bad mouthing him behind his back to certain people in the staff, he had a good reason to dislike people in 'Ant's camp'.
On the other hand the fact that he ruined his relationship with Erock and Vos who he seemed to be genuine friends with over practically nothing shows the Opster has some real issues.
The ERock one is I think the best case against him being a bad person or a dick.
I think a lot of Ant's stories fall a little flat when you realize that Opie was the boss because Ant and Jimmy took no responsibility. And when you're the boss you often have to be the bad guy. Ant has no concept of that.
I discovered the O&A show much too late after it was disbanded and have been binge listening to their entire archive for the last year and a half. I never understood why people thought the Chip character was such a hit. It annoyed the shit out of me and wasn't comedically good at all. I like Norton though. Virtually everything else about the show was great. They had such a dynamic between the 3 of them and it worked really well. No other show like it.
Now, now, the level of rage against Opie was as undeniable. I was one of those who wanted him drawn and quartered. But I’m not so sure any serious revisions are the result of him being misunderstood. I feel less revulsion toward him but only after he was dethroned and forgotten. By contrast, Jim and Sam’s egos continue to inflate while their performance has declined or flatlined. Honestly, would fat, angry and funny Jim have embraced the stupidly unfunny Chip? Please, let’s continue to show these guys to the door.

Gradually? we are already there. Opie really did 'steer the ship', Anthony really was that quick and Jim was really that creative.

I have a lot of trouble believing all the stories of him being an asshole over the years are just some sort of misunderstanding or whatever, so he is probably a dick.
However, it takes a special kind of fucking selfish cowardly asshole to not visit your loving mother when she is suffering in her final years. Worst of all to not show any outward remorse about it. That cements Ant as much worse to me.

On the other hand stories about him snapping his fingers and such may be just that he expected his staff to simply do what he needed to get done during the show. It was his responsibility to keep the show running no matter what. And because he knew for a fact that Ant was bad mouthing him behind his back to certain people in the staff, he had a good reason to dislike people in 'Ant's camp'.
On the other hand the fact that he ruined his relationship with Erock and Vos who he seemed to be genuine friends with over practically nothing shows the Opster has some real issues.

I think a lot of Ant's stories fall a little flat when you realize that Opie was the boss because Ant and Jimmy took no responsibility. And when you're the boss you often have to be the bad guy. Ant has no concept of that.

I discovered the O&A show much too late after it was disbanded and have been binge listening to their entire archive for the last year and a half. I never understood why people thought the Chip character was such a hit. It annoyed the shit out of me and wasn't comedically good at all. I like Norton though. Virtually everything else about the show was great. They had such a dynamic between the 3 of them and it worked really well. No other show like it.

Now, now, the level of rage against Opie was as undeniable. I was one of those who wanted him drawn and quartered. But I’m not so sure any serious revisions are the result of him being misunderstood. I feel less revulsion toward him but only after he was dethroned and forgotten. By contrast, Jim and Sam’s egos continue to inflate while their performance has declined or flatlined.
