A bolt is generally used for joining two unthreaded pieces of material and requires a nut. If the fastener is used in material which features an internal thread then it is normally described as a screw.
But then threaded inserts in the receiving material complicate matters depending on if you classify them as threads or nuts.
We'd really need to see details of the internal construction of the monster's neck to be able to say for sure one way or the other if it was bolts or screws.
I assume the flesh of a corpse isn't threaded, so while screws might work, historically I've only heard of them being bolts. Trust me bro, I make $7.50 an hour in the fastener section of Home Depot.
