I've always thought that his jockiness caused him to not want to deliver material like a normal comedian. The delivery is always more straightforward and explanatory, rather than playful and "jokesy". Either he doesn't have the ability to be a little goofy while telling jokes, or his "alpha" pride makes him avoid it. I think it's more of the latter.
Whereas most comedians' approach is being funny through clever unexpected exaggerations, Rogan's seems to be relating interesting or strange things 'like an adult' where the gist is usually "dude! How fucked UP is that shit!". I think he sees the standard route as a little childish, affable, and therefore beta.
Isn't being less funny for fear of being a "beta" more bitchlike than being a tiny bit vulnerable and improving your comedy? If Rogan really thinks like that he's an even bigger peterpuffer than I thought.
His latest special on netflix was great, and he can do a 3 hour podcast with anyone from comedians to professors. I judge your intelligence if you can't figure out the reverence, especially in comparison to the other options out there (e.g. Tit)
