However, this recent tragedy has demonstrated that the Brits, despite their being somewhat useless in the current global equation, now have an opportunity to research and develop something that only they're minds are capable of creating....

I am talking about invincibility cloaks, not to be confused with invisibility cloaks. (That may be dangerous in the wrong hands.) If they can develop and rent these invincibility cloaks out at concerts, soccer games (ewww!), etc., you can save lives.
