Urgh, the gleeful pile on on someone who is clearly fucked up and ill is what makes me hate Twitter users and feel justified for mocking Pat. Such an abhorrent website. There is an impulse in mania, as with Tourette's, to say the most offensive things, like a desire to give in to abandon. Every mental health advocate in that thread doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.
Good point, brothaman. Honestly, you’re right, though. Didn’t think about it that way. I didn’t laugh, nor was “outraged” like most users. I genuinely thought, ‘wonder what mental illness she has...’ and Tourette’s never crossed my mind.
It just doesn't fit with their broad stroke narrative. All people struggling with mental health are victims and therefore morally superior ('I have bipolar, and it's never made ME shout out racist slurs') and similarly your life deserves to be ruined for saying something racist regardless of mental state ('White people always use the excuse of mental illness when they get caught saying racist shit'). The end result is no one actually caring about the racist language, nor the evidence of mental illness, it's just "how can I frame my reaction to this event so that it's all about me being virtuous?"
u/patrickstomlinson also suffers from the same lack of empathy and nuance, and it's why the marathon-cheating astrotard needs taking down a peg for his own good.
