He’s a lot smarter than you think. I’ve heard him say some brilliant shit. Sure you have to flesh it out a bit but the point he makes is right on. He can surprise you.
You might think this if all you ever see is his clips or compilations. Listening to him in long form, at his seminars, speeches and church services and he's a really wise old guy.
He's also excellent, because of that, at wearing people's bullshit out in interviews and discussions.

He asks the salient point of an issue, and doesn't play word games where people avoid simple definitions that make them uncomfortable. He's an amazing dude at not getting flapped by insults or insinuations, and not letting people lead him down a path to make their bullshit make sense.
Some questions aren't simple yes and no questions though, he's black and white on any issue. I don't mean him acting as a black uncle Tom, I mean him thinking the world is only one way or another. Every issue is it's either wrong or right, never any gray area. There is room in between many issues that actual intelligent people explore. He never does that.
