Opie hung out at comedy clubs and invited and green lit any comedian that came in regularly that was worth a shit. Anthony stayed in Long Island with his creeps drinking himself to sleep every night. Anthony never told anyone hey you should come on the show cause he didn't have that authority or insight. That people turned their backs on Opie that's just a reflection on them. Opie's unlikeability made him the strength of the show. He was the only one willing to kinda put himself on the line (knowing or not) to do a dumb bit, and he would push it hard, and eventually it would make me laugh that the idiot wouldn't give up the bit. Many times, this was just annoying, but occasionally it was funnier than yet another gay joke from J or A.

This is 100% true. Yes he often put a pause on the funny but it was his risk taking that allowed O&A to blow up and then become a platform for comedians (who Opie had a good eye for and constantly invited them back)
If he didn’t push bits, he’d be some Long Island graveyard shift DJ. AntH would be in prison for child rape and Jim would probably be dead.
