So I’m all honesty... what’s the fuckin deal with Jim’s celebrity obsession?

I honestly can’t figure this shrimpy cunt out at all, I remember an episode of the show where they were saying Jim’s place is like a museum/shrine to famous people. I can understand getting star struck, I met Mike Tyson once and took a picture and I was stoked because I was a massive fan, but this pile of shit has photos and autographs of anyone and everyone even remotely famous, apparently hung up all around his house, my only question is, why the fuck ?

I remember some clip from a show when he wasn't there and everyone revealed just how awful and specific he is about these pics and autographs. The marker has to be warmed up just so, posters and shit have to be handled a certain way, etc. I don't know what to make of it besides assuming he has a natural talent for being as annoying as possible.

That was the Shaq photo incident. Jim thinks having quirks counts as a personality.

Mental illness channeled into something that doesnt involve serial killer trophies.
It goes to a really creepy extent. He was at the airport with Cplin and othets and he pointed to a kid with a guitar case and said its a Jonas Bros. Jim was 99.9999% he was fucking with him but that margin was too large. What if it really WAS a musician 2 generations removed from his interests that he never listens to? He HAD to ask.

He almost certainly has a cluster B personality disorder.
People with these PD's don't really have a 'identity'; they don't really know who they are. They have no "inner-self", or a fragmented and confused sense of identity. People with cluster B's were often diagnosed with multiple personalities back in the day for this reason. BPD is the most extreme in this regard, with NPD being quite similar but with a false, child-like (self-centered) 'projected self' in place of where a normal adult is supposed to develop.
Cluster B's are all about appearances, their appearance is often quite literally all they are, because of the gaping void inside themselves that is really there. Jim's mother was overbearing and distant/neglecting at the same time, he was obviously sexually abused and he didn't leave home till he was in his 30s. No adult identity was allowed to develop. I suspect Jim would hit the diagnostic criteria for narcissistic personality disorder with possible co-morbid borderline features.
To Jim, these pictures and the fantasies that accompany them are as real to him as your experiences doing everyday mundane things. This is who he is. There is no Jim beyond what he imagines himself to be. He likely fails the 'reality test' when it comes to celebrity pictures and his relation to them and hence his own place in the world. He genuinely thinks he is an important star, and the pictures of him with celebrities help solidify his appearance/delusion/sense of identity. It's all he's got.
The above theory also explains his lack of empathy and social skills.

Remember those stories of Burr and Opie being held hostage backstage at concerts so that Jimmy could pursue his obsessive celebrity compulsion. They tolerated it and tried to laugh it off as cute, charming, endearing. But Burr was still trying to make it and Opie was still in the beginning stages of his relationship with Jimmy. Could you imagine them tolerating that shit today?
