Who runs the ona website?

I want to offer any help I can from a legal perspective. If for some reason a bird is involved get /u/lawyerherelistenup on the horn, but for copyright/DMCA and defamation issues I can be of service.

Can’t you just host the site offshores somewhere and tell anyone who complains to fuck themselves?

I imagine the issue there is finding a country that doesn't cuck to the typical online complaints.

The problem's been with DMCA requests, right?

Surely there's somewhere that makes taking action on copyright claims more expensive than just filling out an online form - that way he's got to actually work/incur costs to get the offending picture removed, preferably in another language.

Russia would be worth a look I reckon, complete with .Ru domain (to prevent DMCA requests from going after your domain host). I can't imagine they'd give a fuck about the hurt feelings/IP of a Milwaukee insurance salesman.

You weren't talking to me πŸ˜‰ but along with DMCA I think there is a new issue with violating the GDPR based on the new "no EU residents can sign up" policy. As much as I'd like to think whomever runs the websites wants to ban Europoors as much as I do, I do believe there is a legal motivation in play.

Good idea, if there's one thing Russia supports, it's freedom of speech. Ya mook.

We'd have a .ru domain for 8 minutes before the Putin jokes started.

.... so put a word filter in that blocks Putin's name, and that Pride poster of him.

Besides, I don't think they give a fuck about private English language sites.

Pick some African shithole. Like fatrick is gonna hire some Nigerian lawyer?

I don't know how enjoyable the user experience will be when we have to send and wait for data to come back from a stringed can tied to a cow's asshole in Nairobi.

Then how does The Pirates Bay and shit like that stay open for years?

You weren't talking to me πŸ˜‰ but I think the issue with the website was a GDPR violation, which is a EU law that says organizations who collect personal data from "EU subjects", basically anyone residing in the EU, that there has to be certain privacy protection/limited retention/deletion protocols clearly spelled out on the website's privacy policy and clear consent to such by the user before any data is collected, lest the organization risk a 4 million euro fine, or a certain percentage of income.

The point of the GDPR is for people to know/consent to exactly what information a website/app retains or collects, but it is extremely superfluous and onerous on businesses in my opinion. It's basically creating a law for litigation trolls to squeeze money out of anyone who collects data from EU residents without adhering to a brand new, vaguely worded law with perfectly conforming text on their app/website.

With TPB I think they get off because their country allows such unrestricted sharing of files from servers located there. It isn't a data collection or privacy issue. I could be completely wrong about the website but the fact that it now says no EU residents can sign up makes me think this.

no EU residents can sign up

Sounds like a win-win.

What's the win for them? More energy to focus on avoiding car bombs, stabbings, acid attacks, and trucks of peace flattening 50 people on a sidewalk?

Yes. But actually I meant two wins for the good guys because I'm retarded and didn't understand how "win-win" is supposed to work until you just made me google it.

You can also find a good example of such in The Office "Conflict Resolution" episode.

But that's Kenya. Nigeria might be better?

I know where it you quizzical beaner.

Never give an autistic child a globe for their birthday.

I never got poverty gifts like that, and only used a globe to go "mmmmmm there next time!" My parents were able to afford vacations.

It was from a teacher. I think she molested me too.

The fuck is "ThomasCrownroast"?

This has been recommended by me and many fucking others since that retard set up his forum. For whatever reason he hasn't.

He should host offshore and he should have a registrar that doesn't capitulate. He doesn't.

Fucking faggotry, can't make fun of some broke cuck out of Milwaukee?

We/you can... I think the issue has been not responding to frivolous DMCA claims and then the website violating the GDPR.

basically the guy who runs the site is scared of a chubby failed author from milwuakee suing him into oblivion

If he knew how to run a web forum, he wouldn't have most of the issues he's potentially having. Allowing the forum to host images is fucking retarded. Removing that and telling everyone to figure it out would make moderating the forum much easier.

Yes, I go there and it's a god damn mess in my opinion. There's also apparently mod drama again over there.

Why is anyone in charge of any of these groups always wind up showing their true sissy colors?
