An brief analytical look at the recent sub history

1  2019-10-02 by HermanoJoe7

Here is a link to the condensed raw data I've accumulated: https://pastebin.com/VgUgzHad

There have been two non-O&A subs used in this history (metalgbt and karencameback) both of which seemed to have been shut down relatively quickly (less than 24 hours in both cases). What's also interesting is that it was with these two subs that most of the perma bans and suspensions happened.

I cannot figure out the anomaly that allowed /r/opieradio to last as long as it did. Perhaps it was because of the age of the sub, which I think plays a part in how "heavy" DMCA and harassment reports are (ie. they're heaving when the sub is new) in getting a sub banned. I also think this is why /r/opieandanthony (RIP, may god bless your soul) was allowed to operate as long as it did with no intervention from the admins.

What's also interesting is how unwitting mods are caught up in the ban sprees (like /u/saralinn ?? from /r/opieandfriends). Even if the mods are trying to stop our presence but are still banned, how can we use this to our advantage? Also, were the mods only banned because it was an O&A related sub that we were in or was it because of our presence alone?

I've had a lot of time on my hands lately so I've been able to take my autism to 11 on this. I hope someone else enjoys this data.

I appreciate this autism brotherman.

I figured opieradio lasted so long because of the metalgbt purge. It went down shortly after everyone was back front the 7 day ban I figured they just weren't paying as much attention that week.

This is an excellent observation, brotherman.

Interesting work brothaman

r/Fatrick was going strong for a long time too

I never went there, were there a lot of Joe posts? I wonder if it's more effective when Joe and Patrick team up like the dynamic (ie. versatile) homosexual duo and report multiple posts in the same sub? If Joe wasn't reporting anything in /r/Fatrick maybe it took a while to reach the ban threshold.

Where's my homie /u/quasi101, I feel like he'd fit in in this discussion.

You'll have to ask /u/quasi102 for some knowledge.

I think it's u/quasi103 - 102 is some unrelated dude

Oopsie doodles!

or is it.....???

There wasn't much Joe so you could be right, although the bans have been so arbitrary it's hard to say. r/willtate was deleted within hours of its creation.

I mean of course they are better when they team up just look at this raw power

Why was OpieAndFriends used twice? Is the list not picking a sub at random? And can we use more poorly moderated subs. If you look through /r/redditrequest most of those subs are free to post in. Wouldn't that be funny?

I already sent him a list of older unmodded subs. I have like 30 or 40 or them. The issue is like in op it seems those get banned faster and the users banned for brigading. At this point, it doesn't matte ri guess, but we don't have any rules to go by.

I can grab the unique number users that commented. My script is a bit broken at the moment since the original ona sub had like 400k threads submitted. But i'm recreating all the content here:

https://opieandanthonyarchives.com/reddit/

i'm going to have to split that out into years i think. its blowing up my python script.

What kind of script are you running?

i script kiddied this dude's code https://github.com/libertysoft3/reddit-html-archiver

and i'm running it all on a server, but its shitty and uses csv to generate the html. Its also very slow. I'm sure there's and easier way to generate html from the psaw wrapper code (https://github.com/dmarx/psaw) , but my coding is rusty as shit (i've been an architect for a while now) and and i'm doing serveral other tasks on the archives right now and needed something quick and dirty.

Are the archives indexed by google yet?

i don't think so i haven't really been doing SEO or anything. I may pay some company once its in a better state to get it on the search results

I'd rather get https://thejosephcumiashow.com on there first, but i havn't had time to convert it to a more "official" looking site yet and remove the jokes

it’s weird how the patrick sub... i forget what it was called, got banned even though it was private.

Wow. I totally missed louie beans

Heads on a swivel, lambchops.
