As much as I want to say that Opie drags down the show when he opens his mouth, he really does provide an integral piece to the show. Ant and Jimmy are the real talent but Opie provides structure.
Well, considering Opie runs the show, and Ant and Jimmy are just there to say funny things, I say there IS no show without Opie. So what of he doesn't drop the funny as much as the other two, but you know what? It's not why he is there. That us why he added those two to the show.
Once people understand that his role isn't to be the funny man, people like him a lot more, and really appreciate when he does do funny shit, like cake-stomping, hanging up on people, baby-shit mustache, ect ect ect
I don't understand what structure he offers that people think is so great. I don't see a need for him on the air, maybe he can brilliantly run the show for you people off mic? Jim/Anthony are a lot better at doing shows without opie now a days as well, it's not like it used to be.

Opie structure means going to breaks at terrible times, bringing up shitty topics that you know Opie knows nothing about (the knicks), and saying 'howling' any chance he gets. The Nopie shows always fucking rule. Anyone replacing Opie during those shows are far more hilarious and entertaining than the sensitive frat boy.
I miss a less Zenful mean Opie, and yes at times he can be a little over sensitive but I still think he adds an element to the show. He counter-balances Anthony well and does segment the show properly. Could a producer like Danny step in (like on Nopie days) and steer the ship, yea most likely but Opie does have a view that differs from some staff members and that leads to radio. Opie has been back-seating alot lately, I don't think he said more than 3 words in that Odenkirk interview on friday. He basically lobs up softball topics for ant and jimmy to bat around and does it WAY MORE naturally than fucking Sam.
This was 3 years ago yet you still see how deep seeded and truthful the arguments are. Op & Ant have a total on air relationship now. They rarely are at the same place (except staff weddings (not Eric) and live events) They walk on egg shells with each other and rarely take shots (ant almost never). Granted they turn the opposites into radio but its no more than that. The whole different directions things is still true to this day.
Well they joked about it a couple weeks ago and explained it perfectly. They've been together for about 18 years so far. They do 5 shows a week, each show is 4 hours with commercials. Most of these shows is sharing their opinions and experiences. So they have 20 hours a week of getting to "know each other". Marriages don't spend this much time talking together. They know all of each others stories, they experienced the same work stuff.
Why the hell would they spend their free time together? Opie's loving being a Dad, and Anthony is living the man-child dream. Being together would just muck up their personal lives.
Couldn't agree more. And to be honest I don't mind it totally because it adds a different dynamic to the show eachday. I wasn't really trying to expose something that wasn't common knowledge, I'm not sure where I was going.

At first I was like "doucheeeee chill", especially after Ant kind of ignored it/pretended not to hear. Opie said it again 5 seconds later and Ant responded "well I think that'll be OK" also sounding sarcastic. I'm sure you guys picked up on it too.
