I reckon it is also a pretty clear Zen allegory, the Judge is the ego/personification of human knowledge, the unnamed protagonist Kid is the personification of the egoless monk. He battles with the ego (judge) by his non-conformity/unwillingness to kneel. Eventually the Judge fails at trying to convert him and has to physically destroy him (as he could not psychologically overcome him).
