I have a theory that Jim Varney and Jean Claude Van Damme are the same person, but once ‘Ernest’ started dropping in popularity, he faked Jim Varney’s death and figured he could ride the action star wave, but then he did Street Fighter..
Flash foward to 2018, he does “Jean-Claude Van Johnson”, still doing that phoney accent, but occasionally making Ernest facial expressions.
Poor guy killed off the wrong persona, and killed the hopes for any future Ernest movies.

Jim Varney was a great actor who left us way too soon. His like will never be seen again.
