It definitely better than real radio...I thought I'd be listening to more comedy shit when I got it but it's been almost none. Jim and Sam is obv. unlistenable but for music shit it's at least better than terrestrial. Live concerts n shit.
lol a bday present last year...they keep sending you lower offers and I think it was only like 2.50 a month or something, although I WAS thinking about re-upping. Spotify has commercials for it unless you pay for it and doesn't have curated shit/interviews/concerts/randomness/and is shit for artists. Don't like the way it does radio stuff. I do CDs the most still. I find streaming "faggy". And to make clear, I never listen to J&S.
Spotify doesn't seem to have many commercials but I don't listen to it that much. I believe Sirius has actual long commercial breaks like old time TV. I can't get past that you're expected to pay and listen to commercials.
It's mostly commercials for other shit going on on Sirius although I think the talk channels have some other shit, which yes, is ridiculous. Cheaper than Cheese Pizza media
The commercials are mostly on talk radio shows. The music really doesn't stop much besides occasional DJ's on some channels or 15 second bumpers saying what channel it is.
Pretty low overhead. Satellites were paid off years ago and they keep selling ads, signing deals with auto manufacturers, and paying dogshit. Even their blue chip talent doesn’t make what they did 10 years ago.
Already #1 on the NYT best seller list. Howard will need enough sharpies that make his hole gape.
Here's where you guys get upset and downvote me: 95% of SIRIUSXM customers aren't circling a barren island on the internet and calling it the center of the universe.
What keeps it in business is the deal it has with most car manufactures to include 6 months of free SirusXM with new cars. They count on many not to cancel because they're too busy/lazy and pay for it after the free trial expires.
That's why they bought Pandora. When the companies say nobody wants satellite radio anymore because they want to stream music on demand then they have an in to pitch them Pandora before Spotify gets a chance to.
I'm saying they're betting that having a long standing business relationship with GM or whatever they're with makes them more likely to get the deal against other companies offering a similar service.
When the deal is up and it is time to renew, just call them and tell them you want to cancel. When they try to persuade you to stay, tell them you would only stay on for the discounted price, otherwise you walk. They cave every time. Had Sirius for over 8 years and never once paid anywhere close to the full price. As long as you dont mind being a stingy Jew about it.
It’s easier that you’re doing it over the phone. There are entire departments dedicated to retaining customers who offer incentives to maintain subscriptions, credit cards, etc.
Five bucks a month, in 6 month blocks for the last 11 or 12 years. Just takes a 5 minute phone call to say "Give me that again, or just cancel my service."
People shit on satellite subscriptions, but it's cheap as hell for fourteen billion stations that are just there.
Yep, I used to telemarket for Sirius. Thats the only thing keeping them in business and they hope you forget to cancel before they give you these crazy charges. No one under 40 gives a shit about Satellite radio and they know it.
Do they get some sort of demerit if they let people cancel, to the point where its better for them to give you a big discount instead? They are always super adamant that I do not cancel under any circumstances
Yeah there's deals we're not supposed to mention unless you do. I think you could even get it for like $10 a month or something. If our sales are low then they'll let you go or your commission will be low. Turnover was insane too. Out of my training class of 13, there were only 4 left in less than a month.
visit the howardstern sub. You'll see plenty of people willing to pay for SIRUIS. Those that pay get realllly bitchy when someone else says they are going to stop subscribing. Those subscribers think they are getting a deal, because SIRUIS offers them a discounted rate for not canceling. Paying $1 instead of $1.25 for trash isn't really a bargain
I've listened to satellite since OnA went to XM. I never once paid SIRIUSXM anything. Even now, there is still a way to get free online access, but there is absolutely nothing worth listening to.
Listening to Bisping talk about that (as a world champ nonetheless) was insane. Some completely out of touch exec let Bisping coast. He worked on the fox desk for years and now is on ESPN. I bet that moron is still employed at Sirius.
Do the curated “channels” actually draw people in? I’ve heard a few people say that’s why they use Sirius, but you could get the exact same thing on Spotify with more customizability.
I'm one of the schmucks that still pays for the online sub. The channels that keep me in are Deep Tracks and Underground Garage.
I remember XM being so much better pre-merger. They were willing to try new things and not stick to the same FM daypart shit Sirius did. Buying out Pandora recently was probably the best business move they've made in years and could help them not shit the bed.
And even then they're wading into a saturated market. Spotify is the leader in the space but Amazon offers curated, ad-free radio for free* and all the streaming platforms also offer some sort of radio feature (Google Play, Tidal, Apple Music, etc.).
Amazon music was great until they went to the "Amazon Music Unlimited" tier, and scaled back their Prime-inclusive catalog to 100,000 songs or so. Then they wanted another $4/mo to go back to what used to be included with the hundred something shit they charge for Prime.
XM wasn't run like a terrestrial radio station, but Sirius always has been. They want everything to be safe and predictable. Sirius music stations are on tight playlists all of the time like a terrestrial station would be.
its like facebook - sometimes companies grow so huge that it takes a lot of time for them to go out of business - a lot of people just keep renewing membership out of habit or they are just used to having it and dont know what would they buy if they drop sirius
Howard Stern is probably a big part of it. Whether or not you love him or hate him, there’s a lot of people you subscribe just for his show. Even though the current Howard Stern Show is a far cry from it’s heyday, it can still be occasionally entertaining & it’s basically the only thing I still listen to on Sirius. That & the fact that the monthly cost is about the same as the price as one pack of cigarettes, so it’s not a financial burden to anyone making more than minimum wage.
Electric cars are sick if you live in the 1% of the world where you can recharge them every 200 miles or every 100 if you decide to goose it a bit. It's not worth living in that part of the world though.
How much does it cost to fix an electric car. I'm sure there's not that many certified electrical car mechanics. Also what if you wanted to take a trip outside of California you would be screwed. I don't like it.
Imagine a 3 second 0-60 time in your SUV with automatically opening trunk, doors, hood and gas cap that you can control from your phone...Which you can't do with a more expensive Range Rover or Mercedes.
Honestly, I like my gas engine car, but when the 250 mph, sub 2 second roadster comes out, it's game over. Nothing at that price range will compete, not even just in the range you can drive it before a refill...Love it or hate it, gas is just old and technology has to advance. Electric cars are barely starting out and are already dominating the competition that's been around for over 100 years. Outside of the sound, gas cars just have nothing left to compete with, and not much room to grow.
Honestly where do these fucking retards think the power comes from that charges their gay cars? Do you think because you plug it in to charge instead of filling it with gas you aren't using fossil fuels?
You can use fossil fuel in your car and in your factories, or just in your factories. Regardless, look up electric f1 cars, electric track hyper cars, 7 seaters outpacing Ferraris, etc. They dominate the competition even in just their first or second iteration. I'm sure back in the day people talked trash about gas engines when you could just as easily just throw coal in there. Technology advances, and there's a reason every car manufacturer is trying to make electric cars.
Teslas are shit and I hate everyone who thinks they're cool. soulless oversized ipad case with wheels. always with some "NO OIL" vanity plate. nice gullwing doors on a family SUV, fag
I honestly have no idea. I hear it in rental cars and never anywhere else. The Bonfire is decent but paying for a podcast because they can pay more than 3 seconds of a hit song at a time is insane to me.
I drive about 4000 miles a month all throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey managing a sales district. I can only talk on the phone and listen to podcasts just so much. Sirius, if you are a sports fan, is still good for National sportstalk and games.
If If you do not spend a lot of time in the car by radio that I would have no idea at all why you would purchase it. But for someone to spend a lot of time in the car it is still not a bad option. I also think it doesn’t make much sense if you were music fan only or you were an old Opie and Anthony listen up this is nothing here for you now.
Yeah It has an ease of use advantage if it is in the car(which they obviously push) but panning a couple casts and filling in with random airwave radio is just as good. I mean how much do I need to hear about Odell Beckham being traded or Eli maybe reaching the end of his career? It sucks and everything for the next few months is speculation.
If I drove a lot I would probably get Sirius radio. I like discovering old music and new songs. Even though I can stream a lot of stuff through the internet on my phone if you don't have service in that area you're screwed. I think they need more talk shows
There is no doubt the entire satellite radio thing was something the internet bubble where massive capital was dumped into something they didn't understand but didn't want to miss out on. And also can my kid get a job there and a photo with NBA players, thanks.
Then you know its been used for all sorts of business bullshit and it's where dentists are 'losing money' for tax purposes, a dozen major Hollywood films too, then somehow money is invested in 'insurance hedging schemes' in some baffling way that 'bets' how young people die, then that value is used as a form of capital value to fund some other web of pharmacy speculating.
Basically it's all lies being kept afloat by your uncle driving a 2015 Chevy that came with Satellite and he forgot to turn off credit card renewals and still pays though rarely uses it.
By this time next year, anyone with a show on Sirius is paid the same way YT works, they get a bit for adverts/hits and then have to set up their own 'Patreon' if listeners want to donate.
It definitely better than real radio...I thought I'd be listening to more comedy shit when I got it but it's been almost none. Jim and Sam is obv. unlistenable but for music shit it's at least better than terrestrial. Live concerts n shit.

Called in yesterday to cancel, they gave it to me for a third of the price. This is the 5th year in a row I've done this

just because talk radio is basically a dead medium doesn't mean sirius is suffering because of this.

Mostly because truckers don’t want to listen to commercials with their music.
Yes, I’m a trucker. No, I haven’t had sxm since 2014. No it wasn’t because of Anthony getting fired, I bailed before that.

Why are you assuming someone is asking you questions?
1 RacistPigeon 2019-03-15
Because it amuses me to do so. The same reason behind most of my decisions.

What? How is it free?
1 FootballWatchingDope 2019-03-15
It definitely better than real radio...I thought I'd be listening to more comedy shit when I got it but it's been almost none. Jim and Sam is obv. unlistenable but for music shit it's at least better than terrestrial. Live concerts n shit.

There is? They've cut down recently.
1 FootballWatchingDope 2019-03-15
how?
1 FootballWatchingDope 2019-03-15
It's mostly commercials for other shit going on on Sirius although I think the talk channels have some other shit, which yes, is ridiculous. Cheaper than Cheese Pizza media

The commercials are mostly on talk radio shows. The music really doesn't stop much besides occasional DJ's on some channels or 15 second bumpers saying what channel it is.
