Been listening to Rogan lately and was actually surprised how much he has toned down his weed, third eye open, alpha brain gobbledygook. He appeared practically square when interviewing Alex Jones. Or more like when Jones shouted craziness at the ceiling for 2.5 hours. The man is certifiable.
I did my master's degree at the same university that Gervais went to, University College London. I was there when he did one of his early stand-up specials in the UCL theatre (Animals, I think.) He came to one of the union (where he worked after he graduated) bars afterwards and hung out with some students. He spent almost the whole time basically flirting with this pretty, twinkish, blond guy called James C who I knew. James wasn't gay but was so cherubic that he was very used to being hit on by gay men. "Definitely a bender, he was practically drooling on me" was his verdict later that evening.
Gervais is a weird guy. He never talks about anything personal or sexual, unless it's in some over the top comic way. Whenever he gets asked something personal he gets all defensive and just tries to deflect. Dunno if hes hiding something or he just has no actual personality under his public persona.
Gervais: "I get to make another self-indulgent, unwatchable netflix series because I did ten good episodes of TV 15 years ago and the cameos on Extras were good"
I absolutely can't stand his series. Self-indulgent is the perfect way to describe them. It'd always his character being flawed yet loveable to the viewer , and everyone around him being idiots whose pointless bickering he always swiftly dismantles ! I swear every single character apart from his is there for the sake of saying something stupid to make his character appear smarter. His shows are always narcissism incarnate
Oh and don't forget his fetish for including a middle-aged, bland woman in every show that, along with his character, is the only 'reasonable' person in the universe.
An Idiot Abroad is amazing. I haven’t seen anything since that warrants this guy as a comedic genius. Are ANY of his standups good? I tried watching one a long time ago and shut it off 10 mins in
To be fair, his last one "Humanity" had its moments. He had a couple of quite ballsy jokes shitting on Bruce Jenner and trannies in general and had a bit about men who wear toupées that made me laugh. Not great but better than a lot of the horseshit that passes for standup these days.

He looks like that mulatto kid that was on Intervention and addicted to cough syrup/DXM.

I really hope that they discuss the art of comedy and how some people take offense to jokes.

Gervais treats atheism like Rogan treats weed: discover it at 40 and make it your entire """personality"""
1 FloggingTheHorses 2019-03-11
More to the point, he treats it like a RELIGION!

Hey Ricky is responsible for an entire 12 good episodes of TV from back during the bush presidency. We must listen to him for ever.

To be honest the xfm/podcast is fucking brilliant, the rest not so much

You got any good clips to pique a brothaman's interest?
1 officeredditor 2019-03-11
Honestly, really any of them. It’s Karl Pilkington who is comedy gold in that series more so than Ricky or Steve easily.

The Ricky Gervais Show was good, but mostly due to Karl. Ever seen Derek? Unwatchable dogshit.

1 y_ukoh 2019-03-11
alot of his early standups were rehashed jokes from the xfm show, some were actually Karl's, which annoyed me
