I wonder about the first stages of Roe. Alzheimer's doesn't just happen immediately. And I've seen pictures of them all hanging out before the five years. Did he hear she had Alzheimer's and just immediately bail? It's a progressive disease. Her last memories were most likely two imbecile sons not being around. They are fucking shit human garbage people.
I think she started pretending she had Alzheimer’s sometime after Ant split up with Lobster Girl and when he started dating the Ghost World 17 year old; when she realized that she would not only not be getting any more grandkids but also that he was a bit of a creep.
It’s also very possible that BroJoe was hitting her up for monthly “dividends” too (“Ma, we made a deal in ‘72”) and Ant’s declining career prospects led her to realize that her eldest would only be leaning on her more for support in her golden years if she didn’t do something.
