Why do comedians feel the need to refer to themselves as a ”comic”?

I always hated when Norton or Blob would start their sentence with a sickening “as a comic..”

One of Vos’s douchiest moments was when he was explaining the difference between a comedian and a comic. Something about a comedian uses comedy as a job but a true comic lives and breathes comedy. It’s in his soul, maaaan.

Ewww.

He says that to validate his career and life choices that led to no tv deals,no millions in the bank, no comedy specials, no admiration from fans and no happy love life.

Vos is a comic630.

That hack, Shuli from the Stern show always called himself a comic as well. I feel like it’s a smug type of thing.

I like when they refer to everyone else as a "civilian" as if the rest of us are bystanders in some secret war they're having.

They’re mostly social rejects trying to find an exclusive tribe to call their own where they feign some level of influence and power. Reality: telling drunks dick and pussy jokes hoping to get invited on a podcast.
