Your Movies Suck did a great video essay about it. It was clear Spike Lee had no interest in making an Oldboy remake and he only did it as a quid pro quo deal. Make a studio movie in exchange for them financing a Blackkklansman type movie. No idea why the studio would think an Oldboy Spike Lee remake was a good idea though.

Spike Lee is like Anthony Cumia, if there's someone on the staff that reels in the racist bullshit, he does good work. I watched "Inside Man" for the first time in a decade and that movie is a gem. It's not a home run or anything, it's just good solid work w/o any of the preachy nonsense we've come to expect from Lee.
Chiraq was so deceptive and preachy I wanted to punch my television.
This man is one of the main reasons blacks have become so uppity. I wish they would have realized that staying humble and gracious would have made the white man much more sympathetic to their "plight".
