It's great right up until the guy gets attacked by the animatronic panther. It looks so ridiculous that it takes you right out of it. Like getting attacked by a sock puppet.
We're about the same age. My grandpa took me to the theater for The Patriot and I loved it (I'm sure he did too, as a great man). It's also worth noting the film is basically Braveheart just transported to Revolutionary America.
It's really dark as well. It's played, for much of the time, as a kind of farce but in the end you realize what this guy has gone through is all real and terrifying. It's a good contrast. Underrated indeed.
One of the best openings I can remember, sets the scene and establishes the character without saying a word. BTW what does your personal shrine to Mel consist of? Mines is a bottle of vb, a crucifix and wode paint. I also have the sacred tapes playing 24hrs a day too.

I thought Braveheart was corny. Apocalypto, on the other hand, was one of the best films I've seen.

Same. I go back to that film a lot and it always feels like I'm watching it for the first time.

TBH I didn't even notice that. If I'm invested in a film I can forgive nearly anything.

They're screening it here next Friday, looking forward to seeing it. The Passion movie's on the list too.

I remember seeing The Patriot when I was 9 and being the first Mel movie I ever saw will always be a classic to me.
We Were Soldiers is fantastic too

Theater of the mind.

It's not his most important role or probably the best film he's ever been in but I just love Conspiracy Theory. He plays the lead in that so well.

He does play a kook well in that

I have a personal fondness for The Patriot but I think Lethal weapon is the correct answer.
1 Wopitikitotengo 2019-02-04
Anyone who doesn't say the patriot is a faggot. If you don't enjoy seeing Mel butchering English people with a tomahawk you are 100% gay.
