I just started watching it for the first time. I am on season 1 episode 4. It's pretty good so far. I see alot of guys from OZ, which was another great show.
I’m watching it for the first time right now too, Season 2 episode 1, and am having trouble understanding why some consider it THE best show. It probably doesn’t help that I’ve seen a lot of David Simon’s similarly minded shows, but this feels way too procedural to compare to shit like the Sopranos.
That's what everyone said about House of Cards and season 6. I recently finished watching the whole series. I found it to Strat to slide at season 3 but I had to watch all of it because I was curious as to how bad it got. Season 5 was painful and season 6 is shocking.
I am watching the wire with no huge expectations, it's pretty decent right now. Typical HBO solid show.
Do not listen to him. While I love season 2, people/critics usually rank it as the second worst season (the final season being the worst). Season three and four are the best seasons of The Wire.
Now The Sopranos is overrated. Some of the best characters and acting performances in television history, but plot wise its a complete mess. They were making it up as they were going along season by season, and having stars drop dead in the middle of it just made it worse. Plus the obnoxiously ambiguous ending just leaves a bad taste in your mouth at the end of it.
The wire is fantastic once you're invested in all the characters. The story arc is the best writing I have ever seen. Great actors also. Boardwalk empire that was an overrated show
So many pointless scenes that had nothing to do with the story. Also great characters like al Capone and lucky just weren't really used. Fucking mess of a show that had a lot of potential

Don't bother watching past season 2.

It was good. It gets overrated when people put it on The Sopranos level though.

I thought the ending was pretty obvious wasn’t it? It’s pretty clear tony gets killed

Don't pretend it wasn't. Chase left the country because he knew what backlash it would receive.

the wire is the "wise black people playing chess" of TV shows

How is it overrated if no one seems to know about it compared to other HBO shows?

They should have done a spin off show with Lucky, Meyer and Bugsy - setting up the mafia, Vegas etc.

It's a great show hut so fucking overrated. Sopranos and Mad Men Destroy it.
