He tries to hide it behind the stilted laughter, repetitive catch-phrases and that ghoulish rictus "never been happier!" grin of his but it's obvious that he's wildly uncomfortable with being a host and he feels awkward and self-conscious about it too. While he's capable of being funny, he doesn't actually have any talent, as evidenced by the way he sits there like a retard as his co-hosts and guests babble and walk all over him. He's trying to do an almost Carson-like thing but doesn't have the chops to pull it off.
