This isn't some sort of call to arms, but just wondering: How many people (like me) can still listen to the old O&A stuff, and enjoy it as much as they ever have.

I'm aware at what piece of shits they've turned into (other than Opie), and the literally horrendous things they're guilty of. But at the same time I can't pretend I didn't know or suspect pretty much all of it, anyway.

Maybe I have sociopathic traits, or something, but stuff people do does not make me avoid or change my opinion on their work. I can still watch Chris Benoit matches, I don't flinch when OJ shows up in The Naked Gun, and I still laugh at Anthony on O&A, even though I used to think of him as a cool older gent, and now I think he's a degenerate demon.

I still find the old O&A stuff funny, doesn't matter how shit they've all become. But I don't listen to it much anymore because I've already exhausted most of it. I'm still looking forward to CCRed's online archive he will never finish though.

Yeah, that archive would've been fantastic if fully realized. But the sub motherfucked itself out of that when it turned on everyone who was ever on the show.

I laugh at old shows just fine. I would never listen to or watch TACS, Opie & Jim, and Jim & Sam. I gave J&S a shot at first but they shit the bed pretty quick so I was out.

I honestly can’t listen to any old O&A unless it’s one where they had Patrice on

Colin, Vos?

Eh

Intern David?

Now you’re just being silly. You’re a silly man

I’m with ya ! Patrice or nothing

My brother

Im the same way. I was listening to the Mel Gibson saga for hours and that will never not be funny. Even on the reverse side, I can laugh at the work of people that became liberal faggots over the years. I can listen to some of Patton Oswalts old stuff, and watch The Colbert Report before he became god awful

It really sucks How many people have become warped and obsessed with politics, because Patton's old stuff is still very funny, and Colbert Report was just good fun.

I can listen to the old shows but I’ve heard all decent ones over and over so there’s really no point

Honestly, the Cellar Comic era shows are the only ones worth listening to

A good chunk of the intern stuff is awesome and most of the Erock stuff is hilarious. Steve C. compilations are good and so is the Danny stuff but mostly because he’s an asshole who always had Anthony enabling him because they were friends.

It doesn’t age well. Ron & Fez is so much better.

I completely agree.

Ron & Fez is like calmer zoo version of O&A.

Ant hasn't changed. He's just running the show himself now with no one to bust his balls.

Anthony Cumia, “degenerate Demon”.

I still love the old stuff except for Opie.

Still working my way through every single XM show, and I'm somewhere in mid 2013. It doesn't change how funny some of the stuff is, but a lot of it feels like watching a movie you already know the ending to. Anthony makes jokes about 18 year olds being too old for him- but you know it's really not a joke now. Stuff like that.

O&A ended for me when Anthony got fired. I occasionally listened to Opie and Jim but that barely lasted a week. I listed to one TACS and immediately got rid of it. Sam was obnoxious even when O&A were still on, and I always immediately shut off the radio when the stupid After Show came on.

Yeah I listen to all their stuff. I keep going back to the Alex Jones interviews, Patrice comps, and everything with Colin quinn. I think I've listened to Colin vs Jimmy 15 times. All in all I still a fan and always will be.

I dont care what theyve turned into. At the time they were good. But Jim Norton... knowing his personality and everything he was saying was fake makes him unlistenable.

Yeah phony Norton is the worst ! What a total disappointment he is to me.

Yea I’m still getting through all the episodes. I hate the interns the most. They mostly do terrible radio when they are involved.

The only time I ever had a bit of an issue -not even that much- was during the Opie hate years. I still could listen to everything just fine, but his annoying characteristics came through very clearly.

TACS and J&S suck shit, as did O&J, but I still can enjoy O&A like I always have.

Maybe I have sociopathic traits, or something, but stuff people do does not make me avoid or change my opinion on their work.

This is not sociopathy, this is a perfectly rational separation between a creative product and an individual's behavior. I don't give a rats ass about Woody Allen marrying his step-daughter or the allegations about him abusing his other daughter; some of his movies and most of his prose writing is brilliant shit, and I'm going to like it no matter what he does (or what somebody else tells me I should think about what he does).

You are not the abnormal one here; the cultural expectations about this shit have become insane.

I wish Anthony was still funny. Shrug.

I got into O&A through Louie appearances. After I listened to all of those I listened to Patrice, Colin, Jefferies, a lot of Burr, then youtube highlights. I listened to thousands of hours of O&A and I loved them all. Then I started listening to regular full shows and I honestly don't think it's that good outside of highlights and good comedians (which in fairness, there's a lot of). It's not terrible, but not great. Doesn't matter what era, though different years are mediocre for different reasons.

I still listen to highlights pretty often though. Going through the Lady Di internship for like the 5th time right now. It's some of the best radio ever. Opie is just a fucking nightmare on air always. Anthony's "haha holy shit" and punchline repeating has really been fucking nonstop for at least 10 years. The worst thing about his race rants is he's making the same 3 basic points. Hundreds of hours of radio just to say the same thing over and over again with no humor.

But the absolute worst for me these days is Jim. He has literally 8 jokes in his arsenal. I don't know how people like Patrice and Colin don't rip him to shreds for how many times he's used the lame "were you saying that into a mirror?" joke. "I was hanging out with this guy Chris" "I WISH IT WAS CHRIS FARLEY AND YOU WERE DOING SPEEDBALLS WITH HIM". Each joke literally hundreds of times.

When it was just the 3 of them it usually is boring. But put another character in the room, whether it's comedians, Lady Di, Bobo, or Intern David, and they all were able to shine pretty well - except Opie. Always terrible (except for right now).

and I honestly don't think it's that good outside of highlights and good comedians

Yeah, a lot of people don't realize how spoiled they've become with the cut up compilations, making what could have been a "story arc" over the span of weeks or months into a few hours with cut up audio. Kinda reminds me of when Art Bell came back with his internet streaming show and people were bitching about the quality of it, but they didn't realize during his C2C run, there were a lot of duds then too, which is inevitable broadcasting 5 times a week, and they were used to the best of the best shows that managed to stay up on YouTube.

It's kind of a shame though, because if the whole O&A crew realized where a lot of their post-show fame came from (the compilations and mashed up audio on YouTube), they could have emulated that by doing podcasts with a really structured framework/direction for each show. Could have been an absolute hit, IMO.

Yeah, unfortunately most of the old comedians either died our outgrew them and none of the O&A guys are making any effort to get some young new ones to take their place. On the rare occasion that someone like Vos is on J&S, they try to get him to take his shirt off for 90 minutes and in general the shows always just feel like a fucking dud.

I still find Anthony from 2005-2009 pretty funny. But I fucking despise any form of Jimmy I get physically angry when I hear him now. As unfunny and boring as Anthony is now i just see him as a guy who kind of lost his mind and went off the deep end. Jimmy tho is truly the worst a selfish sociopathic cunt.

It's terrible now. All their crutches are really obvious, and once Ant starts on his political rants you might as well skip the whole show. Also Jim's sanctimonious attitude really is embarrassing now that you know he's a sad bitter old man.

Listen to old R&F instead. Timeless

People dont listen to the old O&A shows because Ant is "now" a drunken old man and Jim is a worm, its because its mostly shit.

Some old stuff is doable but alot of it is just cringe worthy shit. Youtube O&A 2004 and listen to 15 minutes, its hard to listen to.

Some clips with burr/ck/patrice and the "crew" is ok but most of it, shit.

But I'm not somebody that thinks they were great back then. I think their prime era was around 2008-2014. The ratings never got back to the top, but the content was incredible.

Old R&F is 5x better

Old R&F is like a running storyline and their dead spots tend to be more interesting even if it's missing comedy. Though R&F did get really bad the last few years as well.

Old O&A is fantastic, and to be fair, Anthony was always portrayed as a bit of creepy weirdo. I got into the show when I was 12, and I remember even at that age noticing Anthony’s racism and latent pedophilia. That was kind of the tone of the show. It’s only now, without stability and the spotlight, that Anthony’s true form reveals itself.

Can only listen to old Louie and/or Patrice episodes now

I was just listening to an Anthony playing Everquest comp (about 60 mins), knowing what I know now, it's just creepy thinking about him playing as a "wizard" when he was cruising for underage pussy and cock. Fucking wopnog. But yeah, Patrice comps are great, Colin stuff is still great, a few interviews I can listen to again (the Brian Johnson/Malcolm McDowell one for example), the Mel Gibson Tapes and the Terry Clifford beatings.

I still love the shows when Patrice was on

Yeah the worst part of it, to me, is that I kinda suspected all of it was true and heard about all of it for years but ignored it. I feel about O&A now, the way I felt about Howard after I was a fan of his too... this is healthy. Before, I would probably try to dismiss criticism of Anthony because I liked his radio show. Now? I can see it clear as day for how pathetic it was.

I can listen to it, but now it's less listening to be entertained and more listening to be entertained plus playing a game of 'find the flaws' like hearing greggshells or "hold onnn!" or something in real time while listening.

The mention of Chris Benoit is fair. While understanding what a pathetic piece of shit Cumia is today, I have to admit right up until his final years his performance and improv wit were masterful. The dead wrestler dolls bit is one of the best things from radio in the past decade.

I've been listening to Ron and Fez. In a few months I can go back to some classic O&A bits

I've moved on to what I can find of Jackie/Billy West era Stern.

I love the O and A show but I have listened to countless hours of it and repeated everything I could find since 2013.

I can always get a laugh from Patrice, Ted, Uncle Paul or my favorite author's appearance on Bropie and Manthony.

intern Noah, intern David, and the Lady Die Sagas are evergreen funny. The stretch of Louie CK guesting was magic. Patrice was awesome to a point. I loved anything screaming about race at callers and shoehorning amazing rants whenever he could. Most of the Jocktobers are fantastic.

Like OP said, I've listened to my favourite bits so many times that it's a bit tougher to go back, especially now that this sub has coloured my impression of them.

Now I've moved on to The Bonfire, Cum Town, and Gavin Mccinnes

The show is ruined for me except for a few Patrice and Lady Di bits once in a while.

Humor-wise, I can. Easily. All these fruits have to do to get back into everyone’s good graces is to be funny again. It will probably never happen, which is completely their fault, but I don’t take anything that is said here very seriously. Listening to their old stuff, it is easy to still laugh at it, but it is also more sad than ever because those days are gone.

Still watching your old Jimmy Savile tapes?

No, I always thought he looked a bit like a pedo and somebody who fucks corpses, and he wasn't actually very entertaining at all.

But to your point, I have no problem watching that Louis Theroux documentary with Jimmy. Even more so now, just to see if you can pick up any hints.

Only certain Colin and Patrice material is listenable.

I cannot listen to the stuff I used to enjoy on account of how much of a fucking faggot Anthony Cumia and Jim Norton have become.

Unless he’s bashing the callers angry jimmy is annoying now because I know how much is craves pictures with celebrities. All intern David videos are still great and prime Fez + breaking down Fez are a great listen. Anthony with Patrice is the best shit.
