Old references could be funny if presented the right way. Gilbert killed on Stern one day just doing antiquated impressions. The difference, of course, is that Gilbert is actually funny.
When Gilbert does Georgie Jessel calling home to his "momma", it always gets me laughing out loud - yet when I looked up the actual thing, Georgie Jessel didn't seem very funny. And I typically like those older comics.
Anthony also has like 10 movies he can reference and it's the same 1-2 lines from each one. He usually isn't trying to do anything creative with them either. He literally just quotes old movies/TV. How many times has he repeated "lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes"? It's gotta be in the hundreds. How could it possibly be entertaining at this point?
