Were the wnew days better than the free fm walkover xm days ? I wanna listen back to the shows and I would like to know what was funnier or had better moments.

I'm aware post 2014 everyone involved has turned to shit but we can't deny the glory days of the show I have been hearing bits and pieces of all the shows but I wanna know which era was better.

It was godawful.

i heard a lot of full shows from 2002 and 2004-2005 and my opinion is that they both sucked really bad. you cant compare an avrage full show to a one with Patrice / other funny comic or to highlights you would find on Youtube. that said if you want to get "into the lore" of the show it can be helpful.

WNEW was audio cancer. I seriously can't belive they got famous from it. If you compare it to WJFK era R&F, you'll understand why they syndicated everywhere and followed Stern, while o&a had to do shock jock bullshit just to stay relevant. It's so fucking bad.

This is correct. I think Opie got way better at interviewing after being around Patrice. The other two were always and still are hopeless when it comes to that

O&A pretty much became a continuation of Tough Crowd during the mornings. And I don't mean that in a negative way.

Absolutely. It was actually better because of the long format.

"Where you at with the magical negros put on this planet just to help a wealthy white man?"

Walkover days were funny because of people like Patrice, Louie, Bobo, Vos, Lady Di, etc. Jocktober and fucking with guests was also funny.

Nothing else they did before this was interesting at all.

The only ones who like WNEW better are the northeastern retards who grew up listening and all sound like Joey Diaz.

I am a northeastern retard who grew up listening. But I cannot imagine anyone seriously saying "they peaked on WNEW" unless they were trolling or named Gregg Hughes.

Remember this is before the average person was on the internet and radio was a big media, so the horrible WNEW shows drew big audiences because it was unheard of content.

I think the final lazy years were much better in that they were creating more unheard of content... a radio show where nobody cared and almost seemed to try to actively get fired.

I know they beat the Apology Clock bit into the ground but how many other shows stick out in your mind as having been 100% humor oriented to the extent of bashing unfunny garbage comedy that gets a pass nowadays?

Their peak was early XM pre-Free FM to me. They had to be more creative, and the FM/XM thing added too many people putting input into the show and they had no energy for the XM part. It was tough listening to the XM part.

I think the difference was on WNEW they were just making bullshit disposable radio like every other shock jock thinking nobody ever listens to an entire show because they're just having it on for a commute or get bored with commercials and turn it off after one segment. But at XM they knew people were subscribing only for them so were probably going to listen to the entire show daily. So the show was now under a microscope and they had to actually put work into it now.

they had to actually put work into it now.

Too bad that attitude didn't last longer haha.
