I'd want security if my fan base was this fan base, especially back when it was more then a few dozen spastics and/or spergies.
Not just for myself, I'd want it for my family 24/7.
And even thought Ant got fired through his own stupidity on his time off, if he had personal security that would not have happened, as any competent security would have discouraged Ant from antagonizing street prostitutes.
Ant probably just didn't want to be followed by a working stiff who might have a negative view of his penchant for sexually preying upon children.
