In the genius show Extras, Ricky Gervais' idea of the lowest form of comedy was "wigs, glasses and a catchphrase"

Unfortunately the British have a long history of that kind of shit

When we all know the height of comedy characters is a middle-aged man with learning disabilities.

Gervais's massive drop off after The Office and Extras confirmed something a lot of people suspected - Stephen Merchant was the funny one and the better writer.

No confirmation was needed. He’s an imbecile. He has always been an imbecile, and the fact that Jimmy worships him and believes whatever Rick tells him to believe, tells you everything you need to know about Jimmy as well. Until he turned on Louis, he granted him that same fealty. Louis is funny but the fact he’s called a genius is shameful to the idea of genius.

Look right, God...what's that about? Rubbish. If you consume more calories than you burn off, you'll get fat, it's not rocket science, innit. People who skin animals alive are proper cunts, know what I mean? My right to tell jokes trumps your right to be offended, that's freedom of speech, innit.

He's like a 17 year old boy from the 90s.

ricky was funny though, xfm rockbusters, educating ricky etc. karl brought the material, ricky added funny asides and stephen was probably the quickest/wittiest, cracking show with all three but. ricky was good at making them two fight

Ricky has good timing and is funnier than the average guy on the street. So is Louis. Louis is a lot funnier than Ricky. Smarter, too. They are not geniuses.

It doesnt take a genius 20 years of failure in a career field before getting it right. Louis had been doing stand up for about that long before starting to take off in ‘05 and then really blowing within the next 5 years. People like Nick Mullen are geniuses where its a completely natural part of their psychopathy to be funny.

Can't think of a funnier podcast than Cum Town, but Nick Mullen isn't a genius and also very vain - still like the guy, though.

The personality cult over at the Cum Town sub is one of the most contemptable things - definitely the gayest - I noticed on Reddit.

"Hello Ladies" was pretty terrible, though.

It was pretty one note. But next to Derek it was a comedic masterpiece.

No argument, Derek was fucking dreck. At its roots the Simple Jack shit they were parodying in Tropic Thunder.

A feature length film of Simple Jack would definitely be funnier.

Stephen Merchant's episode on Norm MacDonald Live is by far the funniest. Give it a watch if you haven't. It's still available on dtube

Those idiot people never listened to the radio shows or watched Hello Ladies then, apparently. Merchant is comedy cancer, not an ounce of funny in his lanky goggle eyed frame.

I thought you were on about Karl and got mildly offended. He's starting a new show this month, I hope it does great

What's got ya havin' a laugh today?

Tacky shit.

genius show? shut up etc.

Eat a bowl of dicks, etc.

Have you seen it? It's fucking great.

watch it.. or don't; I am not your mom

I have watdhed it. I disagree. Sorry for telling you to shut up mister I have emotional problens.

You also have spelling problems, you silly nincompoop.

The Office was close to genius, Extras was extremely uneven.

this is fair... Office was genius; Extras wasn't as clever or groundbreaking but it had more hard laughs than The Office.

"I've seen everything, I've seen it all"

True, at it's best it was great, but it had too many mediocre parts for it to be considered great.

That's true. It's still worth watching for the good bits though. Steve Merchant unblocking his shit-packed toilet with a whisk during a date is quality

The David Bowie one was good too https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4osp43

And the Patrick Stewart one https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3uir5

Chubby little loser

National joke

He could have been singing about Jim Morton!

More like "regional joke" or sumtin.

"Oh, I like that, Linda"

"Yeah so do I, it's brilliant, Linda"

magic

agree. extras was great

everything he did after that...complete shit

what the fuck was he thinking with Derek? even life's too short had it's moments but derek was pathetic (outtakes are decent though)

there's a bit in one of his standups where he trashes people like Derek, right down to the hairstyle and the stupid gurning. then he expects people to take his schmaltzy sitcom seriously.

yeah, not only that but i think on the radio he took the piss out of putting coldplay over an emotional montage and derek was full of that

Yeah man, Ricky is a fucking GENIUS man, I genuinely mean that. The Office? No I never watched it, why?

Are you havin a laff? Is he havin a laff?

Guaranteed Norton's defense will be that he acknowledges how awful Chip is and that it's part of the bit and highbrow. Kind of like how Ricky played Andy who then played this character with the glasses and wig, knowing that the character was terrible.

yes, but Ricky's character never became more famous than himself

So either Jimmy is a hack or Chip's costume is a low key rip-off of Extras.

Why not both?

But Chip evolved, dude.

Barry off East Enders and the agent was the funniest parts of that show.

Jimmy fucking sucks.

Are you suggesting that saying "tsssssssss" isn't the highest form of comedy? Enlighten us civilians, mister chappelle.

I liked Chip better when he wasn't a wigger with a mullet

Chip was way better as a voice character. The visual element actually hurts the character .
