I really do think Patrice liked him. Opie would always do funny, awful shit to make Patrice laugh. To Mr. P, Opie was a role model, because he was a millionaire that refused to bend to the will of The Man and always said and did whatever he felt like. A self-made millionaire that didn't even give a shit when he lost his job.
I think part of Patrice was an edgemeister, and he could appreciate someone acting juvenile and dicklike even if it was legitimately mean spirited and didn't have a punchline, just straight up bullying.
He mentioned somewhere O&A were going soft and not interested in being "edgy" anymore but he wasn't done with mean yet. I'm just assuming he'd laugh at a cake stomp or an old hag having her guitar smashed.
