I get that words evolve but it feels like we’ll get to a point where definitions become so amorphous that nothing means anything anymore.
Trolling specifically means (or used to mean) pretending to have an outrageous opinion in order to elicit a reaction from someone.
It does not mean “bothering someone.” If I pester Joe on twitter and call him a retard, I’m just harassing him. That’s not trolling.
If I got in touch with Anthony and told him “hey all guns should be banned and white people should be enslaved” and watch him chimp out, that is trolling. I said something outrageous that no reasonable person believes, to get Ant to react to me.
It’s getting so bad that we call people who honestly disagree with us in good faith “trolls.” That’s a problem because it relieves people of the responsibility for defending their arguments. You can just say something and if someone says “I disagree, and here is some evidence as to why you’re wrong” and instead of engaging in a debate like a civilized adult, you go on CNN and get interviewed by Anderson Cooper on a segment about “online trolls.”
troll has boiled down to just anyone eliciting strong reactions by going against mainstream thought. so you can actually believe what youre saying.
shitposting is not putting any thought into what youre saying but still expressing a strong viewpoint and or just a worthless take on a situation no one cares about.

Yes. Most of the episodes are the result of the catfish contacting producers to say they want to “come clean” and be on the show.
Then they structure the episode to make it appear as though the victim wants to know who the catfish is instead.
The producers know exactly who is involved before filming but keep the two hosts in the dark to increase the faux drama.
