Theory: Nick Mullen isn't "depressed" or tortured. He's just attracted to the brooding aesthetic of that because he is a pretentious hipster faggot and he has to act contrary to his increasingly happy peers.

When you start developing theories about a fringe podcaster, it might be time to evaluate whether or not Anthony Bourdain had an inspiring idea.

Oh you said "Bourdain yourself" instead of "kill yourself". That's really clever and witty.

Thank you sweetheart.

Um no he didn't

Damn I heard that somewhere and presumed he did. Me hearing it somewhere is what made me think it was Jacky. Nvm.

nonetheless, it was a creative insult. something you know nothing about

You want to hear a creative insult? How about "chud". That's right I have more.

Not as clever as your Cumtown conspiracies post.

Yeah it was a clever and witty way to say kill yourself, now please kill your self.

Nick Mullen is just a smug teenage prick in adult form. It's why I find him hilarious. It's like the idea of being a "Toys R Us" kid forever but instead of playing with Legos you get paid to make gay/dick/retard jokes well into your 30's.

Who?

He's sad that you're an idiot.

he's unhappy because he's a midget.

True, he is little

Theory: if Nick Mullen likes this sub so fucking much, be a man and have a public account like Luis.

If you're cool, can say funny shit and hang, you'll get more fans and bathe in the upvotes whenever you post.

If you're as thin-skinned as Danny or Anthony and will mercilessly turn on this sub the first time you see -3 points next to one of your posts, then fuck it stay anonymous.

theory: you are black

Saw him live and he made some comments/jokes about hating life/thinking he's a failure/whatever and it sounded like a put-on.

I'd rate this myth as plausible.

Mullen probably actually is depressed because most depression seems to stem from narcissists who focus too much on themselves and have no higher purpose in life other than hedonism and maximizing self-gratification. He'll mock Christians as stupid, yet he fails to see the connection between his lifestyle of nihilism, drug abuse, and the need for attention, and the fact that he mentions wanting to kill himself or die every episode.

Living for something beyond himself would cure that depression. Otherwise, he will probably end up going down the same path that Tranpa and Norton have. And we can see right through their pathetic attempts to pretend they're happy with their life choices.

Yeah I've listened to him drone on and thought to myself that his contrived problems all boil down to Godlessness. People like him hate on Christianity because it's an obstacle to pursuing whim. Guess what retard, you can't just pursue whim and be happy. You need a restrictive moral system. Your prize is misery loser! (could it be your life of hedonism has brought you to something analogous to hell? Hmmm....)

Agreed. Even people who have difficulty believing in God could at least agree that a life filled with negative and selfish actions (sin) will lead to misery, both in themselves and in the world around them (Hell).

Don't worry though, he's going to a 👃therapist👃. I'm sure he won't fill Nick's head with self-serving rationalizations for shitty behavior.

Nick if you're reading this try finding a good priest and talking to them. Not joking here. What could you lose?

jej. it sucks listening to it cause you can tell Adam is enabling his belief in bullshit diagnoses. even if he means well, it's going to fuck him up and make him worse off and seems like it's gonna lead to chemically lobotomizing himself rather than some kind of 50s dad tough love talk

You were doing so well until you included Christianity in that for no reason.

He said on the last Bonfire appearance "Christianity ruins everything" (after saying Queen Latifah was "so talented"...yuck)

Whether one actually believes in Christianity and the trite observation that not everyone who claims to be one is a good person aside, the religion itself provides a framework for a positive and fulfilling life for people who actually follow its tenets: humility, self-restraint, making sacrifices and serving others, loyalty to a higher moral order, accepting man's fallen nature as being an insufficient metric for whether something is right or wrong, repentance for bad behavior, etc.

Contrast this with how Mullen lives his life, which seems to be trying to fill that spiritual and moral void with cocaine, mocking everything, empty materialism (buying an $800 racing wheel as a grown man), and being in the shit-stained spotlight of the modern entertainment industry. These are all poor substitutes for something like religion or a family and it's obvious why someone with that lifestyle would be depressed.

Christianity is the Ford Model T of spirituality. It was amazing and game changing back in it's day but trying to take that obsolete piece of shit on the road in this day and age is irresponsible and dangerous.

What makes you say that?

The number one practical thing is that it enables the existence of a class of useless, tax exempt leeches in the form of the Catholic Church.

Other than that I am sure you're familiar with all the criticism the usual suspects of New Atheism like Hitchens, Harris or Dawkins presented in the last 20 or so years so let's just skip to the part where you call me a fedora tipper and I tell you that doesn't make anything what they said any less valid.

Well I don't agree with that analysis but I'm not going to insult you, although I think we're getting away from the original point which is that this guy is depressed because of how he lives his life. Whatever grievances you may have with the Church as an institution, the point is that the adherents of its teachings lead more positive and fulfilling lives and this can be attributed to their devotion to something higher than themselves along with the other examples mentioned above.

As far as Christianity being the Model T, what do you propose is the better modern form of sprituality?

If we're just talking about the operating system on which a civilization should run and which should define the moral framework then you're going to have much better results with almost anything anchored in humanism as opposed to dogmatic stories about talking snakes and resurrection.

Christianity has too much outdated baggage and doesn't seem to be willing to adapt as the centuries go by and we learn new things about the universe like for example the evolution. Pushing creationism on kids in US schools as an alternative just so their parents won't have to admit it's all bullshit is beyond ridiculous.

If we're talking about personal spiritual experiences then you're going to find much better answers by figuring out how consciousness works in empirical way. There's nothing supernatural about it, soul is just chemicals.

And as to Mullen and his depression, from what I know about him he dropped out of school at 15 and spent the next decade working dead end jobs soaked in alcohol and doing drugs including the "hard" ones just as his young brain was developing.

It would be really weird if his brain chemistry wasn't fucked up.

Thank you sweetheart.
