Not only that, she devised a method of stand up where they don't even need to try anymore, they can just monologue about themselves. Can't wait for the new era of female only Ted talk style jokeless comedy.
I disagree, women can be funny, it's just that they don't have to be funny to be deemed "funny". Like how Patrice would point out that the women Anthony was interested were just attractive losers, whereas he was a millionaire. The bar is set so fucking low for them all they have to do is actually try and not be a total fucking dunce and they'll succeed.
You do realize that Patrice was a fat career middle who was definitely being cucked in his relationship and 90% of the bullshit he spun about women he either learned from watching how his girlfriends treated him or he pulled right out of his ample, diabetes riddle ass, right?
To be funny, you have to hit rock bottom. You have to bomb. You have to take criticism. You have to do this so you can find out what is not funny, and develop a sense for it.
Women rarely did this before the empowerment movement, and now that comedy is "Punch up!" bullshit that is more about telling the world how woke you are than making a joke, it just won't happen anymore.
I was told by a thick rimmed glasses pseudointellectual that for comedy to be funny, it HAS to be subversive. It HAS to be punching up. Everything else? Not funny according to her.
it's freakish how they just keep repeating how monumental it is. it's literally your average one-woman show where they just get on stage and have shaky-voiced confessions. yes, you insufferable females and narcissistic gays, the thing failed actors do as a fallback is the future of comedy. all women should be fired from their jobs.
It's the same bullshit that happened to that all-women Ghostbusters dumpster fire. Not only you get pressured to see it, you MUST agree that it's the best thing ever.
What's funny is the stupid "the future is feeeeemale" hollywood clique didn't learn a goddamn thing from that disaster, even when the whole thing blew up in their faces and definitely fucked up, at least in the short term, a few of their careers.
This is worse than the special - Endorsement of the 'privilege' concept, horribly overwrought and melodramatic language.
You do comedy to give people 'relief from life via laughter?' I mean of course, the 'poor and downtrodden' are the real pure ones, right? I'm sure they all love Yannis Pappas. Go fuck yourself.
I love comedy that subverted my expectations of about making me laugh.
UGH fuck your conservative worldview. This shit is art. It takes the rulebook and rips it into a hundred pieces. Have you ever heard of picasso? Well this shit is a picasso painting. It makes you think moron.
it doesn't make you think at all, that's actually the problem. it's lazy and unimaginative. it's a carbon-copy of hundreds of other unfunny people that also couldn't put together a comedy act and instead rely on a derivative political message to sell themselves.
The “future of comedy” is humorless, the “future of art” is hideous, the “future of music” is discordant, the “future of democracy” is PC totalitarianism.
The comedian Tig Notaro, who chronicled her cancer diagnosis in a special that also changed her life, said she was “utterly floored” by Ms. Gadsby’s hourlong show. “‘Nanette’ should be required viewing if you’re a human being,” she wrote in an email. “It really takes days to take in everything she presented, to fully comprehend it all.” Ms. Gadsby, she added, was disrupting comedy. “It’s going to be very interesting to see what comedians do post-‘Nanette,’” she wrote. It’s a dividing line. “She cleared the table for necessary regrowth.”
Comedy shouldn't be like reading an obscure philosophy book. You can tell how shitty an entertainment product is by how hard one freak is trying to make another freak sound smart
Isn't this that sex offender who stripped and exposed their hideous body deformity to an unsuspecting auditorium of hundreds of victims? #MeTooMegakill
I have a friend who used to cast people for TV commercials. She would literally get a checklist of how the people should look. Like "one asian, one white woman, a black guy and a disabled person."
The fewer there are of one type, the more that type gets work. For instance, you keep seeing the same four dwarves in TV and movies because there just aren't many dwarf actors. My friend always had the hardest time casting disabled people.
With that in mind, it makes you wonder if the whole "Tig Notaro is a lesbian who survived cancer" thing was a ruse to get more work in a VERY competitive business.
I don't know if there's anything that's angered me this much in a while. The fucking balls on her to act like this isn't a some slam poetry dressed up as a stand up special
imagine being so emotionally unstable and terrible at comedy that you need to make your whole comedy special about how comedy and comedians are bad and nobody needs them anymore.
If there were any justice in this world, this cross-dressing wog would be picking olives instead of having a platform to regurgitate commie nonsense he overheard somewhere.
It doesn't work as a stand-up special, but worse it doesn't even work as a one-person show. Compare Nanette to anything by Spalding Gray or Eric Bogosian (Hell, even female performers like Eve Ensler, Lily Tomlin, or Whoopi) and it's still not that good (or as funny for that matter).

Of course yannis loves this type of comedy because he's never been funny to begin with and now he a reason to back up his shitty set that gets zero laughs
This is peak leftism. There's literally nowhere to run. You're 'privileged'. You're the 'bourgeoisie'. Even your desperate attempts to identify with the marginalized mean nothing. Except this time it's not about class it's about an immutable quality. Being White. This train has no brakes.
I have a FB friend who recently posted about how he doesn't want to see any more "old white men" in power.
I noted that this is sexist, ageist and racist. He seemed dumbfounded.
One thing that occurred to me later, I wonder if he doesn't consider himself "an old white man." Because, ummm, he belongs to a certain religion. (You can guess which one.)
Speaking of no perspective, the vast majority of Americans don't talk for a living while wearing 300 dollar vintage cardigans. We have jobs that we hate. Jobs that are probably taking years off our lives. So yes you fucking tool, we appreciate the escape for an hour.
