I have a friend who used to cast people for TV commercials. She would literally get a checklist of how the people should look. Like "one asian, one white woman, a black guy and a disabled person."

The fewer there are of one type, the more that type gets work. For instance, you keep seeing the same four dwarves in TV and movies because there just aren't many dwarf actors. My friend always had the hardest time casting disabled people.

It doesn't work as a stand-up special, but worse it doesn't even work as a one-person show. Compare Nanette to anything by Spalding Gray or Eric Bogosian (Hell, even female performers like Eve Ensler, Lily Tomlin, or Whoopi) and it's still not that good (or as funny for that matter).
