I’m fucking loved the no limit album covers as a kid. In high school I was such a giant faggot that I covered the wall in my room with No Limit ads that I ripped out of The Source or XXL.
That's pretty much what they were. It was always 20 tracks ft. everyone else but billed as the main rapper. He'd just pump out those albums. He'd package them all together then distro them through old rap mags like 4080 etc.
Master P, Mystikal and Silkk and C-murder were pretty much the only ones who got their 'own' albums, and Snoop signed later with them.
It's like how comedians these days all have their own "special," but it's 10 minutes with 20 other people.
Whatever it was, it was great. Not necessarily great albums but some fucking great tracks. I always considered Snoops first No limit record maybe his best, other people shit on all of them. But I also liked Tha doggfather too which people said was garbage. C-murder was great.
Yeah No limit top dogg was fucking great. God damn I miss mid 90s to mid 2000s rap. Fucking shite these days. Skinny faggots covered in tattoos sending snaps, what the fuck is that?
A lot of those guys from the bay did those tape / CD covers too. Mac Maul, Dru Down, Mac Dre etc all had those collage No Limit Records style tapes. It was a thing back then, then Master P opened his store "No Limit Records" before he moved down south, like Screwed Up Records for Houston. Them and Burnt Ramen were some of the only good things to come out of Richmond music.
IIRC, this “style” of New Orleans gansta rap album cover originated with one dude who made 100+ of these types of covers with his pirated copy of PowerPoint.

That album was awesome

Old no limit album covers looked like they were all mixtapes or just illegal copies of actual albums. And Master P made boat loads of money.

Machine gun sounds started with rap from New Orleans.
Pen & Pixel were the guys who did most of the covers, even did a bunch of covers for non NOLA groups.

Not enough gold tanks.
1 Slette 2018-07-20
Ahhh, No Limit CDs, where 1/3 of the cover is just listing featured guest rappers.
