She definitely peaks in terms of how hateable she is in S2. In S1 she's mostly just the oblivious pregnant wife but by S2 she starts suspecting Walt is up to something and reacts to it in the most hateable way possible - scowling, silent treatment, randomly leaving the house when he comes home. God she's a cunt.
Tbf though the hateable characters are part of what makes the show good.
She got all bitchy when she found out what Walt was doing to set their family up for life. She was so morally outraged she talked to a lawyer and asked if she could keep the money if she got Walt arrested.
Women are hateable cunts, shes the most realistic character on the show. Are we really supposed to believe Walt never looked for a better paying job in 30 years after his fallout with the jews? Are we really supposed to believe his meth was that much more special than anyone else's? Isnt meth extremely high purity anyway?
And is extremely easy to synthesize and doesn't take a genius to figure out how to make "pure". It will likely just end up getting cut just like any other drug anyway.
it's obscenely easy to make. it just requires you not to be a braindead who's completely not strung out and is able to read a book to make it pretty fine.
If you want to be annoyed follow this broad Gennifer Hutchison who wrote on BB/BCS on Twitter. It’s 24/7 with this shit and naturally she’s a big Skyler defender.
I liked her the first time I watched it because Walt needs a smart wife to balance him out, but she is definitely a bitch in those first two seasons. Anytime Walt does anything "new" like smoking marijuana, going to a health spa or just fucking her brains out she acts so condescending and wants an explanation for it later. "Why are you not as boring as normal Walt. Trying something new? You? Why Walt?"
which is why I like Better Call Saul more - all great characters.
Great characters, but that doesn't mean I want to watch them make phone calls and write on post-it notes for 23 minutes per episode. Holy fuck is that show slow.
The action in BB was sparse too especially in the first couple of seasons. And remember "Fly" in season 3? In BCS we already have major gangster scenes and a main character death. The violence is more subdued but the stakes are higher because the characters are smarter and less prone to recklessness like Walt and Jesse.
I get where you're coming from but you cannot tell me the first 2 seasons of better call saul are on the same level of boring as breaking bad. BCS really draws its shit out as long as possible
Maybe he just wanted to see a sunset or the Milkyway out in the desert where there are no streetlights. Shit, amateur astronomy would have been the perfect cover for his all-nighters.
You haven't met a cunt like his wife. Doesn't matter the answer "well you should have brought me along" "you should tell me this stuff beforehand" "my sister watched the new star trek film so bring her along she clearly enjoys space"
One time she asked me to work on her computer, so the first thing I did was read all her emails and check out a folder that she imaginatively labeled "private."
The computer was full of two things:
1) interracial porn
2) pictures that she'd taken at this nightclub near a Navy base that she apparently went to all the time. She had a friend who lived about an hour out of town and she used to go spend the weekend with her friend all the time, and I just gave her a pass because it gave me an excuse to fuck my mistress.
One time my girlfriend tearfully recounted how she'd been such a slut in college. She recounted how one night, she was feeling a little down, so she invited a guy over to her place and fucked him. That didn't make her feel any better.
So she did it again.
And again.
Three dudes, in one night.
She was recounting this like it was some horrible harrowing experience, and it was all I could do not to jerk off while she was telling it. She's a complete fucking slut.
I never thought of it that way. After getting screwed by his best friend and girlfriend, he's forced to accept the mundane from life. A dumbass boring wife who gives him a disabled son who himself rejects his name and in a sense rejects his father. No wonder he broke bad.
The takeaway should be that Walt always liked believing the world was against him and so while he was being a murdering psychopath druglord he had the narrative in his head that this is what he is owed. He saw everyone as lesser than him. Skylar was a piece of shit but so was he. Literally every single murdering drug psycho in prison has the exact same reason for "breaking bad," if he was a Mexican covered in face tattoos we would still think hes a sack of shit, and both of them most likely dissolved a child's body in acid.
I think the difference is Walt was a pretty decent guy who ran into some bad luck that was his own doing. We watch him turn into a sack of shit and create that narrative in his head. Skyler was a huge cunt from the get go. I might just be unable to see anything good about her because I hate the character so much but she ruined alot of the show for me.
But that's the thing, he wasn't a pretty decent guy, not really. I read what people say on here, about how much she was a bitch to him and suspected him of things and questioned him on everything... But she was right. He was hiding something, he was hiding something big, and she was right about it the whole time so the other way to interpret it is her bitchiness is just her intuition manifesting itself. She probably thought he was cheating but the real story seems to be she was too smart for him and found out before everybody else. From a writing perspective I appreciate how they pulled off the "wife is an intellectual equal" while giving her character flaws so it's not a sitcom cliche.
Very. And ofcourse she gets off scot free at the end despite being compicit in murder and the drugs trade. And no one cares because she's a mother and cries a bit boo hoo.
Unwatchable to be honest. I was in the habit of fast forwarding any scene she was in. Didn’t affect my comprehension or the continuity of the story at all. It’s shallow to say but a big part of why I hated her so much was because she was so fucking ugly.
I’ve found that almost every single show on tv can be fast forwarded through any section with a female discussing anything and it has no impact to the viewer on being my able to comprehend the storyline. B.B. can be skipped over any skylar or Marie scene for sure and the show becomes about half as late by and waaaaaay more entertaining. And you really don’t miss anything important to the plot.
Cunt wife who allows her Nobel Prize contributor of a husband to degrade himself by working parttime at a car wash while she makes shitty art for ebay.
I understand she was pregnant but shit at least get a office job where you sit down all day.
Walt must've been a great big fuck up though, how do you co found a billion dollar company, work at Los Alamos labs and end up teaching chemistry at high school. At the very least he could have been teaching at a state college making 80-100k a year
But the sort of pride keeping him from letting his friend pay should have been the same pride to make sure he doesnt work in a high school. I feel like the writers just needed a way to connect him and Jesse together and thought Jesse would never end up in college
She had an office job but she fucked her stupid beta boss who embezzled from the company while Walt was straight up making millions of dollars being a kingpin. She’s a cunt.
lol I was just thinking that Skyler was one of the worst written characters ever. There is no motivation for her being a cunt besides her being a cunt. That show actually ended on a disappointing note for me, I thought it was a cop-out "Hollywood" ending. They started so good and built so much momentum that they just couldn't keep up with it.
I hated the last episode. It seemed so rushed. It would’ve been nice to know how Walt got the ricin in a sealed stevia packet and the whole scene with the neo Nazis was garbage. Walt had to leave so many things up to chance for that scheme to work. He had to hope he’d be able to park the car in the right position, that he’d be able to retain access to the remote, that all the Nazis would be in the same place and close enough to be within the range of oscillation on that device he made. It was completely out of character. Instead of giving The Walking Dead two hour & a half episodes per season, AMC should’ve at least paid to extend the series finale of BB so they could flesh it out a little more.
Me too, total cheeseball cop-out ending. Imprisoning Jesse and murdering his girlfriend just to torture him made no sense at all. They just found Walt's money stash, why would they bring potential heat on themselves by kidnapping, murdering and continuing to make meth? They excuse that lapse in logic away by just having "Uncle Jack" chuckle and chalking it up to giving Todd something to do. In "real life" they'd have been quickly plotting to kill each other and grab the cash barrels for themselves. Not to mention the fact that they would have just killed Walt too, instead they let him walk away with ten million bucks after witnessing them kill two federal agents. Not likely.
Breaking Bad is a million times better if you understand that the show was supposed to end with Gus Fring.
Basically the writers of "The Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad" were in danger of having their shows canceled, because AMC was putting all of it's eggs into the "Mad Men" basket.
With this spectre hanging over their head, the writers tied up the entire show with the Gus Fring story.
That's why everything that follows feels so 'tacked on' and really soils the story that precedes it. The villains that came after Fring were completely two dimensional, and the show became difficult to stomach because Walt just becomes such a despicable person. The last season is just unnecessarily nihilistic. It's like watching /r/watchpeople die for a year straight. And then they tried to put a bow on it in the last episode by throwing in some humor and having Walt to something selfless. It just doesn't make sense, because Walt had gone full retard already.
This is so true. BB went to hell as soon as Hank found the book Gale signed. Why on earth would Walter leave a piece of evidence like that just lying around?
How hateable is Walter? Awful high school teacher; gets alphaed by a teenager and blows up his car; chemistry genius who chose to do nothing with his life after selling his first venture; prefers to kill people over accepting help from his friends; pretty sure he rapes his wife at some point; has more than enough money after about a year and still chooses to risk his family's lives... But yeah his wife was mean to him while he was manufacturing and selling meth, that bitch
I'm with you 100%. I seriously think you could re-do the entire Breaking Bad story and make it about Gus Fring. That dude was a goddamn hero. He gave Walt half a dozen chances and Walt just kept fucking it up, over and over and over. Then Walt used a child as a pawn to get to Gus, and even risked the lives of a bunch of old folks to exact his revenge.
Besides being an all-around good dude, Gus Fring was also protecting his neighborhood by keeping the Mexican cartels out of it. Fring understood that there's always going to be someone who sells drugs; Fring took it upon himself to do it honorably and with a minimum of violence.
You could also tell that Fring earned the respect of his friends and employees; for instance his doctor and Mike Ermantraut had genuine respect for Fring.
People hate on her but it makes her a better and more interesting character, watching her change over time. Both her and Walt become sociopaths but Walt is the only one who plays the victim until the end.
His wife was a condescending, emasculating cunt. Just a horrible witch. Same goes for Hank. That guy is a world class douche. For some reason, people felt bad when Hank got what he deserved. Never me. I loved it. Hank was a piece of shit. All you have to do is watch the pilot. Watch how Hank belittles Walt in front of his wife and kids and friends. It’s the man’s birthday party and Walt was getting roasted worse than Florentine at the Vos roast. They all should’ve died. Walt Jr. deserved to die an excruciatingly painful death by bludgeoning. Perpetually eating cereal and moping and condescending, that little ungrateful cripple.
anna gunn is a terrible actress and has that weird clownface. She also got that super distracting plastic surgery makeover between 2 later seasons and it made her look even more like Cruella DeVille
What made Skyler so annoying was that the show never had a clear character arc for her in mind, they just sort of improvised as they went along. For example, the Carmela character on The Sopranos was more or less consistent throughout the series. Even when she was fighting with Tony she was still all-in with his crime career and had no serious moral qualms with it. Skyler, though, was all over the place.
Not likely.

A couple of times a week I'd tell my GF that I was 'working late at the office' then I'd go fuck my mistress and come home at 3am.
I was always terrified that she'd smell my dick and bust me.
A year later I was working on the road four nights every week, out-of-state.
It never even occurred to me that I could've just told my GF I had a traveling job.
1 TriangleDimes 2018-07-07

In "real life" they'd have been quickly plotting to kill each other and grab the cash barrels for themselves. Not to mention the fact that they would have just killed Walt too, instead they let him walk away with ten million bucks after witnessing them kill two federal agents. Not likely.

Walt Junior by a hair.

1 d4n4n 2018-07-07
And that's not believable because...?

Well, I guess her ass is big and her titties was fat.

Were fat* you fucking cuckold.

Every time she was on screen all I could do was stare at the massive mole on her arm.
1 GhostofJacuzziPete 2018-07-07
I didn’t mind her until the actress went to the same guy who did opie’s eye lift to get some work done on her face between seasons.

When did Jesse alpha Walt? It seems to me most of the series he is having his will trampled on by others.
1 ckb614 2018-07-07
Wasn't talking about Jesse. Talking about the student in episode 1

I don't watch that stuff... It's a little too blue for me.
1 TriangleDimes 2018-07-07
People hate on her but it makes her a better and more interesting character, watching her change over time. Both her and Walt become sociopaths but Walt is the only one who plays the victim until the end.
1 Not_My_Real_Acct_ 2018-07-07
Great summary. Walter White is a shitty human being.
1 JerkStoreJ 2018-07-07
Not half as hateable as the worthless son. “Durrrr have an A-1 dayyyy”. Go fuck yourself.

If I was a woman and found out that my husband was selling meth I would probably also get judgemental tbh
1 tommy_james 2018-07-07
She was hateable 10 years ago.
1 SlamballReunionTour 2018-07-07
anna gunn is a terrible actress and has that weird clownface. She also got that super distracting plastic surgery makeover between 2 later seasons and it made her look even more like Cruella DeVille
1 Fredrock26 2018-07-07
not as much as bryan cranstons other tv wife from malcolm in the middle

She was pretty funny at least.

I am a conservative, and I still don't support the Alt-Right.
1 LoouisCuCK 2018-07-07
The Alt-Right tend to think Skyler was "hateable".
1 TittyMtnhighway 2018-07-07
She would hiT her T's Too hard. Especially when she was scolding Walt.
"WalT, what is going on? Te'll me"
1 satanssockpuppet 2018-07-07
What made Skyler so annoying was that the show never had a clear character arc for her in mind, they just sort of improvised as they went along. For example, the Carmela character on The Sopranos was more or less consistent throughout the series. Even when she was fighting with Tony she was still all-in with his crime career and had no serious moral qualms with it. Skyler, though, was all over the place.

Like on a scale of the former shock jocks of this sub? She doesn't even register.
But yeah AWALT. She's typical broad.

You can definitely tell that the writing team thought they were getting another season or two with how shitty the last episode was.

They just phoned it in.
