To be fair, it is difficult to grasp just how narcissistic and deluded he is about his career. It's staggering sometimes.

Everyone he jocktobered were DJ's who were doing the exact type of show he would have wanted to do if he had never found Anthony. But he knew he wasn't talented enough for a morning or afternoon drive show so he attacked them.

They always claimed listeners sent in tapes of the shows they did in jocktober but I bet there were a few that Opie specifically picked out. Either radio duos who had gotten gigs in the past that Opie felt he deserved or radio stations that had sent back his audition tape with a politely worded letter informing him that his show just wasn't what they were looking for in a prime day time slot.

I don't know what Carl gets out of his continued association with Opie. The only people left listening to or following Opie do so ironically. Opie no longer offers a launchpad for cultural recognition.

Carl seems like he has successful stuff going on (outside of marriage). I refuse to believe Carl continues to hang out and record terrible audio because he values Opie's friendship and company. Carl must still be hanging on to the sliver of a hope that he can become Opie's broadcasting partner on a high-profile new show. The utter failure of the Opie podcast to move the needle in any way hammers home the unlikeliness of Opie ever returning to such prominence.

As awful as Opies Sirius show was, it made Carl known (at least to us) so he probably thinks of this as some kind of exposure.

If by some miracle, Opie gets a second career, it can only be good for Carl’s restaurant and possibly venturing into his own show eventually.

Granted, that’s a pretty shitty plan but who wouldn’t want to use some rich guy with no friends for everything you can get out of him.
