The working relationships he's been able to maintain at CP Media are with people so valueless that he can pay them $200/week. Everyone who commanded a decent wage like Artie or Gavin took the doddering old fools money and skipped town. No wonder he drinks so much when every aspect of his life would make him burn with shame on sober reflection.

An HBO show is a better offer. I'm sure Apatow and co told Artie to distance himself from CP Media and Anthony in order to be allowed to film with them again.

He said himself Crashing was off the table for him , but Apatow and HBO gave him another chance. That timing coincided with him announcing his split with CP Media.
