Why can’t Opie just do it at his house? Or rent a studio? He needs to inconvenience everyone by doing it at their place or in bars.

Because Gregg Hughes is an inconvenience in everything he does.

The answer to that question (and a myriad of others), is that Opie is a cunt.

1. Lynsi wants him out of the apt. between the hours of 9-5.
2. Opie is to incredibly cheap; to rent a studio, let alone buy his own podcasting equipment. Tim is doing a huge solid by letting him do a podcast and giving him the equipment to use. Not even Tim wants him around.
3. This is the first time in his entire adult life, he has to do anything for himself as far as work is concerned. He literally is incapable of doing anything but pushing buttons and moving volume sliders.
4. He thinks he’s being Andy Kaufman by doing it live from a location. He also has no idea how to produce a show, that was always done for him. Instead of doing some kind of show prep, he’ll just use his surroundings as material.

tim is bragging to guests that opie had 300k downloads for his first podcast. you'd think that would be enough so that they could use one of westwood's studios.

Opie thinks he’s being “avant-garde” by being on location. Being in a studio would require Opie to do show prep, which he has no idea how to do. He cannot cut up audio or put a bit together because he’s hasn’t had to do any of those things in almost 20 years. He’s also trying to relive the glory days of the Opie and Anthony live remote, where anything could happen.

The location requires a spot where Opie can make Judy wait to get on for 40 minutes and ponder what a privilege this is for her

I wouldn't be surprised if Opie is getting discounts or free stuff from restaurants/bars he podcasts from. It wouldn't be hard for Opie to pull up the O&A wikipedia page to show he was a big deal in radio, which would probably be enough for some places, plus he has his celebrity chef pal to sweeten the deal. These poor folks probably don't know how little Opie matters anymore.
