Not OP but I believe the bike plows have something to do with gardening at the Hughe’s household. Of course this involved some contraption attached to bike to plow the field. And of course it seems totally implausible and fabricated.

In regards to the dented cans, Greg’s father would buy only dented cans because they were much cheaper. Much like the bike plow story, this is also total bullshit.

I dont believe shit he says. There is always something that seems added. Plus he starts most of these with " i going to tell the truth" or I'm gonna be honest witcha" When i hear that i know I'm about to be lied to. Also when anyone asked about details he would get vague or try to change the subject on a lot of subjects.

Opie made up his mom being paranoid and weird in order to garner sympathy from his cohosts and relate to them on some level. In past shows he once mentioned that when he started radio, his mom made the family celebrate Christmas on December 26 because Opie worked on Christmas day and she wanted him to join them for it and they all agreed. Another story has him helping his mom deal with her mom who sued them. He's a pathetic liar who threw his own mother under the bus for no reason other than to seem sympathetic.

She was probably paranoid about not having enough money,what with raising 7 kids as a middle class with options.

Also,from what little truth can be gleamed from Opie's lies his dad either made a lot of money or very little money so that added to it. His cheapness and pettiness probably comes from that. However crazy momma and dad never home would mean a disaster of a family and they seem to be somewhat ok which is rare. So it's mostly Opie's need to be the one being persecuted or her mom was probably a fragile woman mentally. Most of the shit he describes is just someone who is already a bit mentally fragile having a nervous breakdown and needing to go away to get some help. A mentally deranged woman could never raise 7 bratty kids.

He did let slip that they weren't hiring people to take care of her but the "women of the family" would have to clean her up or some shit,which sounds like a fucking cheap thing to do esp as a family of 7 adults. He never obsesively repeated that story so it's one of the few things that's true.

Of course she is a batshit crazy narcissist, he is a perfect example of the apple not falling far from the tree.
