Run DMCis not rock rap. They were nerds from Hollice Queens not thugs. They Along with Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons created Def Jam popularized rap in the early 80's. Among other groups.

Do you consider the era before rap was born when there would be a full black band playing funk with a MC talking on the mic rap rock? Rap rock was a fad in the mid 90's and early 0O's. Linkin Park, Limp Biscuit, Korn, Papa Roach those are rap rock bands. Then genre wasn't around in the late 70's and early 80's when rap started to take off.
