Well of course. Only Tim and Matt formed Rancid. However after Jesse left Tim, Matt and Dave formed a band that was only around for a quick minute called Downfall. One of their songs ended up on a Lookout! compilation.
As far as Rancid goes when they were looking for a 2nd guitarist Billie Joe from Green Day played at least one(I’ve heard 2) shows w/ Rancid as 2nd guitarist. Tim offered him the gig but this was right as Green Day was signing to Reprise Records(Warner) so obviously he said no. That’s when they found Lars and he joined Rancid.

I remember when that happened. Jesse has also come out for an Op Ivy song or two w/ Rancid. That’s on YouTube if you’ve never seen it. Very awesome.
