The only IPA I like is 'Nugget Nectar' made by Troegs Craft Brewery. Other than that, give me a stout or porter with my lunch and I'm one happy guy, but what do I know?

Every time I get a porter, I end up disappointed and wishing it was a full on stout. If you're into the Russian Imperial end of stouts, I'd recommend Evil Twin Brewery's Even More Jesus series and their Imperial Biscotti Break (particularly weird/delicious is Imperial Biscotti Chili Hazelnut Break) And your 100% right about Troegs, they are fantastic.

They were my favorite style for 10 years and for the life of me I loved them for real, not because they were popular. Then one day I just snapped out of it and wondered why the fuck I've been doing this to myself. They're better than adjuncts and shandies but that's about it.

With that whole India voyage history thing it's the equivalent of beef jerky, loaded with salt so it lasts for months. Who would prefer jerky over a steak? It's not far off from the adjuncts, whose originators made intentionally with garbage ingredients to save money, then got away with it by brainwashing an entire country into believing ice cold is always better. It just kills the crummy taste somewhat.

IPAs got really popular with young people around the time I came of drinking age. Finding out your good friends preferred IPAs must, on some minuscule level, be like finding out your father is gay.

Fresh IPAs are the best. The thing about a lot of IPAs are they aren’t brewed to last, and they’re so many different micro breweries that stores end up sitting on a lot of product and it’s get real bitter real quick. Not to mention they don’t travel well. Climate, Altitude etc. all effect the quality of beers. I live in an area that has a lot of microbreweries nearby but I still check dates to see the brewed on. Chances are if your IPA is 4 months or older it’s gonna have a massive drop In taste

People don't like them because they're new or trendy. They've been around as a popular form of beer for decades now. Breweries like Sierra Nevada and Bell's started in the 1980s and got popular in the 1990s. People like them because they are market dominant and because so many people have drank them for so long that they have social proof. They are in no way, shape or form exclusive. They've been the craft beer market dominator for over a generation. You'd think somebody in the food service industry would understand this.
