THEORY about LEGENDARY SHOCK JOCK and W.O.W. CREATOR Gregg "OPIE" Hughes HIT PODCAST

The equipment was from Westwood One, but it's for Opie to audition with. He got the green light to make a few pilot episodes that will probably never see the light of day. That's why he had to haul a shine box full of used podcast parts through the rain instead of a fat check to buy new equipment.

I think this is quite likely. They even made him pick up his own shit instead of sending it. And he mentioned he was taking it home, meaning he doesn't even have a place to podcast outside of his kitchen table.

And from the size of the box, it's an audio only podcast. There's no room in there for a camera setup. I really hope the pilots get released. I can't wait to hear the sound the plastic covered couch makes every time he moves. That's the bit tho!!!

Nail on the fuckin head my man

It's also why he keeps using the cliche term "ramping up". If the show was approved, it would just be "on". Instead, he thinks his pilot is going to wow them when they hear it next week and then they'll give it support.

This is one of things that really shows his insecurity and disconnection with reality. He could've not mentioned any of this and did the pilot in the background and saved face. But the lack of real offers got him overly excited at a potential and he couldn't keep it to himself. Maybe was hoping to get a lot of positive twitter comments to persuade Westwood One into a contract, but that fell through and now he has to prove himself in public. What a humiliating fall and even more humiliating desperate scramble. This will not end well.

This fucking multi-millionaire doesn't own the equipment necessary to perform his craft? How can he not have the basic podcast/recording equipment already? This is like a musician who had a 20 year, million dollar career playing guitar for hit band, but yet doesn't own his own guitar, amp, pedals and recording gear so he can do it himself at home, just for the joy of doing what he loves. He should have accumulated the basic shit to do a podcast by accident just being in radio for 2+ decades. This guys doesn't give a shit about radio or broadcasting.

Exactly. He got lucky with the O&A show having Anthony, then Jimmy to do the heavy lifting and managed to make a good career out of it. I'll give him that. He found a way to ride the coattails to fortune. But he never evolved. Never worked on improving his craft. Now he's desperately hoping to replicate that, but lightning only strikes once. Surely he knows he's screwed.

I don't think you can make "few pilot episodes" of one show.

He did it for his last year at Sirius.

That's a sound theory.
