I’m pretty saddened by it. Art is up there with the few famous people that i genuinely liked. I’ll probably keep listening to old CtC, O&A with Patrice and watching Steve Irwin’s various shows for a long ass time.
Apparently he also exclusively had his new wife and daughter in his will, excluding 3 other children. Dude was a horrible husband and father but such an incredible radio talent. I'm genuinely sad, I followed him from guesting for Noory on C2C to his two post-coast radio programs. Just a natural radio man. RIP
By the time I knew about C2C George had taken over, but I always relished a Bell repeat or when he would host on the weekends. This was about 2005-6 when I would smoke weed and get freaked out by the C2C topics
Right. It is a rare moment that I give any shits about somebody I don't personally know passing away, but I grew up from maybe mid-teens listening to his show every night. Can't hear a song he used as bumper music without thinking "wanna take a ride?...". I've got a stash of around 700 C2C w/AB shows I dig through now and then.
I liked the EVP episodes too, with, that weirdo husband-wife team. Those alleged recordings from the other side freaked me out when I was working late alone.
They were not husband and wife. Brad was the younger guy and was in a ghosthunter group with the old bitty. The EVP's are even better knowing that they didn't try to make money off them.
Yearly prediction shows were always fun, just remember, don't call in to predict the death of the president, art was sick of the secret service getting up his asshole
Those were good; my personal favorites were always the shows that covered monsters - jersey devil, springheeled jack, thunderbirds, etc. Turned out that I used to live just a few miles away from one of those ranch/farms that supposedly had a lot of weird shit happen. Wish I knew that back then, probably would've picked up a trespassing charge or two
Maybe, I remember when he was hosting Midnight in the Desert back in 2015 some guest he had on mentioned something about some shit happening in 2024. Then Art chuckling and saying “I probably won’t be around for that”.
The official release doesn't specify a cause and this article has a pretty good rundown of the latest of what's been going on with Art. Really sad to hear this. He was one of the greats and just the other day I was talking about how Bell was one of the most influential and great radio hosts of all time when the subject came up.
Guessing it was lung cancer cause he smoked for along time, and getting remarried so quick after romana died is a lil weird but he was a vet stationed in asia so I guess he got an asian itch from that.
His son was raped at the age of sixteen and infected with AIDS. That'll put a damper on your radio show. Wikipedia says he died three years later, doesn't say why. Eight years after that, he woke up to find his wife dead.
Patton Oswalt jokes aside, it sounds like he lived in an exceptionally trashy corner of Nevada (in a trailer no less) and he dealt with the misery that comes with these places.
One of the all time greatest radio hosts of all time. Coast to Coast AM was one of the most entertaining radio shows ever, and no matter how insane some of the ideas and subjects were, Art knew how to keep everyone listening. Cheers to a fawkin legend.
C2C with Art is my third most listened to radio show of all time after OnA and Ron & Fez. Art had the best broadcasting voice out of anyone. He would’ve been captivating reading the phone book. Every statement contained such gravity. He was great at addressing all the cockamamie subjects while never fully dignifying them. He could shepherd a blatant kook through an interview, make them feel at ease, and create the illusion of necessity for their crazed perception of the truth to be conveyed. Even though there’s only so much mileage you can get out of the big paranormal topics after a while, none of the show’s other hosts - and none of the subsequent shows classic C2C inspired - were as listenable. He was the Paul Harvey for weirdo fringe outsiders.
What a heartwarming moment it would've been if you keyed up your favorite O&A clip for you dear stepdad and he yanks the headphones out 2 minutes in and yells, "Why's the untalented one always yelling?"
Recording from Hell, the guy that called in from Area 51 that said he was escaping after working there for years and was trying to call into CtC but he had to hurry because they were "triangulating on his signal"... All bullshit, but great stuff anyway.
to be a fair, a lot of his fans were really pissed after he ended Dark Matter. He even called into a fan podcast and they gave him a good dressing down.
Then he came back on his own network called Midnight In The Desert in 2016. He bailed on that after a few months. Pissed off people all over again. Still loved him though.
Can we talk about an actual excellent bltadcaster right now? Fuck Stern, Imus...Art was above and beyond an awesome host. No matter how ridiculous every one of his guests was, in the time he was interviewing them you believed them, just like Art.
Your mom's possessed shadow alien box
Sad to hear this. Art Bell created such an entertaining show and long before there were ever podcasts that show was the best thing around. It was such a treat when he would be a guest host after his retirement.
Fuck. Just fuck. when I moved to Colorado with everything I could fit in the back of a f150 and my dog I discovered c2c driving there from nj. I stopped at a rest stop to sleep in some state I can't remember, a trucker that looked like bubbles from tpb walked up to me as I was walking back from the restroom saw my license plate and said New Jersey huh? Where ya headed? I know a lot of swingers from New Jersey. Into all kinds of stuff, sleeping in the cab? I got a full bed in mine, lots of room. I wish I was making this up. I chuckled said yeah haha, slammed my door and took off. It was about 2 am I think and I was instantly wide awake, found a radio show about Bigfoot that caught my attention till the morning. When I got to Colorado with no internet or cable, a coworker of mine suggested c2c late at night. He put t on and I was like oh fuck this is the big foot guy!!!! Anyway, thoughts and prayers
Did Noory even address it last night? The website for the show still has no mention or memorial. Apparently Noory took the show in a more political direction. Because there's not enough shows like that in all the other programming time slots. Noory would be fine as a fixture of late nite broadcasting if he were doing infomercials instead. While Art was effortlessly cool, Noory always struck me as a total dweeb.
Few seconds into minute 37:00 he starts to mention it, and you can hear him tear up, it goes on vaguely till 49 minutes in where they address it, and from there on they mention him through the night.
Oooof, his initial reporting of the news is actually very sad and respectful. Kind of awkward afterwards why they didn't bail out on their scheduled guest, though. Maybe they were in a state of shock and were frozen with indecision, like W. at the preschool. His initial reporting also illustrates how the petty shit that divides and antagonizes people instantly disappears along with somebody's death. If Opie got fatally hit by a car because he was distracted doing a pop-up, Anthony would openly weep during and say that the magic of AA and Compound Media was all due to his fallen comrade.
I don't know if you listen to Last Podcast on the Left, but Henry Zebrowski does a fucking hilarious impression of George Noory asking people retarded questions on the show. They did an episode on mysterious sounds/recordings where had did some good ones (NOW THESE BLACK EYED CHILDREN... DO THEY HAVE ADULT SUPERVISION?)
I don't mean this sarcastically, but I've never heard of him. I listened to a few minutes on youtube and now would like to know what a good starting point would be? His wiki shows a few different shows under different names. Help a brotherman out.
Mel's hole is a good place to start. the Guest is bat shit crazy but does tell a good yarn. Any science shit (kinda made Michio Kaku) is great to cause art was way into it.
His show was pretty awesome and legendary insomniac radio. The best was that moment of drifting off to sleep with some weird conversation about something like "multi-universe demons and spirits" still inhabiting your head space. Then upon waking up, you'd think, "yikes, was that a dream"?
It really was. Art Bell had a show that seemed perfectly reasonable if you were driving at 2am in the middle of the desert. When I listen to it in the daytime it seems a bit silly.
Great memories of Art Bell. His show was probably the first radio program I listened to on a regular basis. Back in the late 90s I had an unsupervised (stoned every night), easy-going, part time, late night office cleaning job. 25 hours per week M-F but I got so quick at it that I could chill out for the last hour. I would listen to Coast To Coast AM every night. I remember being convinced by Gary North that Y2K was going to ruin the world. I even liked Art's very short lived show that was on SiriusXM a few years ago. I gave up on C2CAM a long time ago. George Noory is a bore on-air and a tyrant off-air. He supposedly ran off John B. Wells from the regular guest host spot. John's popularity amongst fans soared because of his Art Bell-like voice and pleasant attitude. I think I still have a recording on MiniDisc when Art talked about the whole ordeal involving his son getting fucked by a male school teacher. I think that's when Art started to crack and check out on everything. He took more and more time off after that incident. Too many guest hosts and shitty guests killed my interest in C2CAM. RIP Art Bell.
Yes, he had JBW fired for having a guest who questioned Sandy Hook. I don't understand why he had a hundred 9/11 truthers on his show but one guy can't bring up conspiracy theories on that?
I'm sadden by this, I first heard him in High School when he came to WABC. That started a amusing feud with Sliwa (who was a big night time broadcaster in NYC) , as Bell just came in and punked him for an hour of his show he needed.
Great night time radio, unlike Cumia, he was a man that could hold an audience for hours all by himself. It was great to fall asleep on a Summer night or come home from partying and have something like that to fall asleep to. In New York for a bit, you could even jump right from Ron and Fez into C2C.
Many have tried and some have come close, but none have matched the magic Bell had for that kind of broadcasting.
He had the best shows ever. He was responsible for me getting to school and later, work, without enough sleep.
My all time favorite was when he would occasionally open up the Antichrist line. If you were the antichrist, you could call in and update us all on the latest news. Holy shit, talk about a magnet for nutjobs. It was fucking great.
Can't find the clip but when he came back he did a half hour rant shitting on George Noory and his old radio campany. It was great and a bit surreal having a paranormal radio war. Noory is a bitch, and George Knapp is a way better replacement for Art IMO.
Yes, he had JBW fired for having a guest who questioned Sandy Hook. I don't understand why he had a hundred 9/11 truthers on his show but one guy can't bring up conspiracy theories on that?

He may have been the original Patton Oswalt though.

I fucking always thought this. The way he moved in a month later after shedding crocodile tears on the radio made me sick.

I was in prison then and used to stay up late at night and listen on a radio with headphones. A lot of guys did.

Where did you hear about him being a bad father?

It's pretty well known, he abandoned two children and a wife in Japan and didn't speak to his other son

Malachi Martin is also a pretty good starting point. He was an exorcist who worked for the Vatican. Completely full of shit but interesting

The Bob Lazar show kinda changed my life.

Damn, you guys sucking this dudes dick hard
Any links to classic shows? Sounds like I need to become a fan
1 Uboat1940 2018-04-14
His show was pretty awesome and legendary insomniac radio. The best was that moment of drifting off to sleep with some weird conversation about something like "multi-universe demons and spirits" still inhabiting your head space. Then upon waking up, you'd think, "yikes, was that a dream"?
1 bonniesretardsister 2018-04-14
I know this sounds faggy, but his stuff was a "you had to be there" show to really appreciate it.
1 enzo_trash 2018-04-14
like you had to be listening live to get the full effect?
Guess I forgot to listen
1 bonniesretardsister 2018-04-14
As in none of the stuff people were claiming actually happened so it sounds ridiculous to have somebody intrigued about the Y2K apocalypse in 2018.
1 jofreal 2018-04-14
Yeah, I can't imagine the open line stuff translating beyond the moments in which they aired.
1 Not_My_Real_Acct_ 2018-04-14

1 bonniesretardsister 2018-04-14
Yes, he had JBW fired for having a guest who questioned Sandy Hook. I don't understand why he had a hundred 9/11 truthers on his show but one guy can't bring up conspiracy theories on that?
1 ChurchOfBaldOpie 2018-04-14
There is no aspect of George Noory that isn't hateable.

I thought he dies years ago. Looks like lizard people really do live a long time.
1 Sternacthegreat 2018-04-14
1 jisuanqi 2018-04-14
He had the best shows ever. He was responsible for me getting to school and later, work, without enough sleep.
My all time favorite was when he would occasionally open up the Antichrist line. If you were the antichrist, you could call in and update us all on the latest news. Holy shit, talk about a magnet for nutjobs. It was fucking great.
1 Bams_seed 2018-04-14
Rip bro. I listened to him every night growing up and he played a big role in my developing into a schizophrenic weirdo
1 Leofan7 2018-04-14
This one hurts, gang. Art had more talent in the tip of his peckah than Sam could ever dream of having.
1 assreaper 2018-04-14
Can't find the clip but when he came back he did a half hour rant shitting on George Noory and his old radio campany. It was great and a bit surreal having a paranormal radio war. Noory is a bitch, and George Knapp is a way better replacement for Art IMO.

This news kinda bums me out. My dad and I took a lot of road trips and we’d always listen to Art Bell on the late night drive.
Half the time, my father was laughing at the insanity of the callers and saying Art was just as crazy. Good times.
Hope the aliens took him to his final reward 👽
