Sam has no answers for any of those questions. The problem isn’t trying to break away from O&A. It’s that he has no fucking clue what he’s doing. That’s why the show sucks. There’s no vision, no leadership.

Sam is banking his career on the notion that he's going to become a famous interviewer within the pro wrestling industry and he's going to be seen the same as someone like "Mean" Gene Okerlund. A character. That's how Sam sees himself.

The problem, for one thing, is that Sam is putting all of his bets on the fucking pro wrestling industry. It's not exactly a booming market in the year 2018. It's a niche form of entertainment for an extremely small demographic that shrinks every day. And even most of those diehard wrestling fans hate Sam. They mock him like we do.

In Sam's mind, this is good because, again, he thinks he is a rasslin character. But that idea really only works if you are already employed by WWE and are making a ton of money. Sam is not. He shows up as a talking head once a month on a pre-show panel with a handful of other people who don't matter. That is his ceiling. He will never go higher than that. He thinks there is this untapped market of people who will appreciate his "brand" and that simply isn't true.

He thinks he has "heat".

If they hate you, you have "heat". If they're goofing on you, then you're a clown. People laughing at you is poison to pro wrestlers. And Sam isn't close to a wrestler or a ring. He's just a fucking talking head.

O&A fans hate him because they know who he is and that he's not entertaining. He has been told he's great so much over his lifetime by his stupid mother that he believes it deep down and you can't truly become great if you think you're already great.

Wrestling is a vain industry - weightlifter jocks wearing tiny outfits and slathering themselves in body oil. If you look weird or offputting, you have to play a weird, offputting character.

The problem with Sam succeeding in the WWE is the girl he does the majority of his work with - Renee Young. Renee's sexy as hell, has a nice clear sportcaster voice, and has a charm about her that helps with the storylines - if a bad guy is mean to Renee, it's like kicking a puppy.

The fact that someone like Renee can do Sam's job while looking like this will always be the better option. If Sam was above and beyond funny and could bring that to the interviews, he'd have a shot. But all he does is hype the upcoming matches and "interview" the wrestlers with the same passion on J&S. He's destined to fail, just like on J&S, because he's too much of a ugly, unentertaining bore.

People like Renee also have talent.

I think he wants to be the next Gorilla Monsoon or Tony Schiavonne, but he will never have the talent.

And in the slim chance he thinks he can be the next Bobby Heenan, he should just kill himself.

A lot of those guys that Sam Roberts wants to be (Eric Bischoff, Paul Heyman, Jerry Lawler, Jim Cornette, Bobby Heenan (He desperately wants to be Heenan) portrayed genuinely mean and creepy characters. They got more viewers in the 1990s while fighting another promotion with 50 million fewer people living in the country. 2018 U.S. wrestling is absolutely not as big as the Territory Era or Monday Night Wars/Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Era.

There was a point where WWF, WCW, ECW and independents were all supported. There was a period of time where TNA had a mainstream television deal and was doing over 1 million viewers a show.
