What's the point in silently removing threads when you could close them and give a reason?
And mods can set up automod to instantly and invisibly remove the comments of specific users, which is a shadowban in all but name.
Too much effort. Much easier just to click "ban," rather than set up filters. Besides, automod is a hassle as it is already.

how much effort is that really to setup such a filter? sounds like it would be super easier or there's a very easy to use script to do it all for someone.
I'm sure it would be easy to implement, but banning is literally two clicks, and would have the same effect.
