Danny is being very liberal with 1400 for a decent place. For that amount, you can get a shoebox sized studio apartment in Manhattan or a 1 bedroom in the outer boroughs in a bad area that is nowhere near mass transit.

You pay federal, state AND city income tax in NYC. Plus 9% sales tax. And buying really anything or going out anywhere costs a hell of a lot more than it does in the suburb. If you have a car, expect a bunch of tickets, tolls and higher insurance no matter how on top of your shit you are.

Just doing the rough math, you'd have less than 10k leftover after taxes, rent and bills. That's assuming no car, single, no pets, no kids. And wouldn't include food, clothes or any luxury spending.

Also, most landlords in NYC won't rent to you unless your annual salary is 30-40x rent. I am nearly 30 and work in an industry where median income is well above 50k and I don't know anyone who lives in Manhattan and doesn't have roommates.

I’ll be honest and say after working with dozens of people there is only a handful I still am on good terms with, but you really don’t have a single person you are on good terms with? I don’t even mean you’re friends or you hang out, just along the lines of if you saw them on the street you’d have a friendly conversation.

Nah, I honestly like you Danny. Yeah you annoyed me sometimes but you are the only motherfucker from that show to come off as at least somewhat honest. Jim, Opie and Sam are the fucking frauds. Was a fan of Jim until his cucking to Anthony got annoying. And opie and ant are self explanatory but at least you have the balls to call them out.

I don't know if you want any constructive feedback on your podcast--if you even know what it's going to be yet beyond that pilot episode. I would say that if you are planning on going it solo, definitely spend a little time tightening up the writing. It all seemed written whether that was what you were going for or not, and there were many words you repeated too close together, etc...

It seemed like between "segments," like before you talked about The Thing and Hateful Eight for instance, you had written that and were kind of pretending to stumble through it conversationally--then when you actually got into a subject, the writing and narrating felt more focused and concise. I would say, either write it all or don't write anything. Or pre-produce things like The Thing Segment and make it clear you're going into a segment. Because right now it seems a weird mix of wandering for something to say and then suddenly there's a focused subject, then rinse repeat.

Also, with things like The Thing segment, I would think about mentioning pairs of movies where you have found likenesses that a director HASNT acknowledged them, or better yet, denied them. Like why should we care that Tarantino used The Thing as influence for Hateful Eight and admits it, and then hear from you the examples of the influence? We could just read that ourselves somewhere on the Internet.

Like why not do a pair of movies where one director has denied influence of another, for instance? Point being, your PERSONAL editorial mark on something like that would make it more interesting.

I say that because, I would think the general public would think: who needs another nerd podcast about movies and video games? What makes this one "special"?

Not long ago, I listened to a Howard Stern show from 1995. I was a little kid in 1995, so it's hard for me to judge in retrospect, but I'd imagine this was a time when having pornstars on the radio was at least a little more acceptable and tantalizing than it is today. Stern brought each of them in one by one, and started with an innocent interview and then slowly started picking at little things about their appearance, and then eventually just trashing something they were insecure about. Regarding Annihilation: You missed many of its points for sure. It's not that it was "too smart" but it was basically an alien invasion movie where the alien wins but it has no evil intentions or goals, it simply spreads and adapts to survive, like many organisms.

The "too smart" part was mainly that each character was affected by the shimmer differently. Based on their self destructive personality and goals, it affected or killled them differently. One of my favorite episodes ever is Bobo "getting blocked" from his ice skating date with Ali. It has the immortal line, "Knock it off, Spade," as well as 3 hours of solid entertainment from Patrice, Colin, and the Gang.

Since I listen to this episode more often than not, I can't help but realize that Opie's endgame punchline was to have Bobo remove his pants in front of Ally. That was going to be it. Then what, him just laughing and the listeners feeling uncomfortable? Thankfully, Patrice, Kenny and Colin were able to right the ship.

But between this episode, and a plethora of others, I can't help but think that Opie is always projecting himself onto Bobo.
