The Gambino boss was pissed about this because he didn't want the Feds to come sniffing around and also because it almost created an unneeded crime war. Then, DeMeo ended up killing an innocent door to door salesman (a teenager) because DeMeo was paranoid that the kid was a Cuban hitman coming to get him. This was all too much for Paul Castellano and he had DeMeo shot (most likely by his former soldiers Testa and Senter). It was said that DeMeo had gun shot wounds on his hands which indicate he was desperately/futile trying to shield his face from the gunshots. He was found in the back of a car.

It’s funny, most of time when people throw out random pension numbers meant to sound high, they are completely underestimating what these guys actually get. On top of that, they pay no city or state tax, and the NYPD guys get far LESS than any of the other surrounding agencies.
They DON’T pay state or city taxes on a pension. They only pay federal tax. State and city taxes in NYC are extremely high so this is a huge tax savings for a NY resident.
