This was at a cinema theater in South Africa and apparently in the movie Black Panther speaks the same local African language as they do so they're just very excited after watching the film and having fun. It doesn't seem to be anything more than that.

Up until about maybe the Renaissance, I'm pretty sure places like Mali and Ethiopia were pretty much on par with Europe (with the Middle East, India and China likely ahead of both). North Africa certainly was. Africa had mainly geographic differences to Europe that made a commerce-driven development of liberalism very hard (lack of navigatable rivers, etc.). Most European nations were filled with subsistence farming peasants and ridiculous customs too, until the more successful nearby neighbors became so strong that they either had to adapt or get conquered.

Modern Africa certainly still has many problems. The main issue being that after colonialism, radicals (often directly or indirectly influenced by the USSR during the Cold War) pushed the exploitation theory as the reason for their state. So they elected (Pan-)African nationalistic socialists. And just as in Eastern Europe, North Korea, etc., a controlled economy with constant property rights violations can't create wealth. But some who embraced free(-ish) markets do remarkably well. Botswana started off as maybe the poorest place on earth and is now on par with Serbia in terms of per capita GDP. They grew with about 10% p.a. for decades.
